A short time before the falling of
the infamous llaslilv prison, the tie
capitation of Louis XVI ami the other
more important events, which we now
call. co.let-lively, the French revolu-
tion, a delegation of citizens came up
to the court of Franee to present a
petition. The answer which the court
returned was brief and plain—they
emisaries of the delegation on a gal-
lows some sixty feel tall left their bo-
dies dangling in full vjuw of the pub-
lic.
We don’t wish to draw parrellels
between this country and France as it
was before the revolution, because the
parallel would not look good, hut we
simply desire to put this question:
W herein lies the difference between
receiving a delegation of men with a
gallows and a hangman, or with a po-
licemen’s club and an ahuluncc corps?

cash is coming in. If tho
friends of the paper do not mukd
tin ell'ovt in its behalf he will bd
greatly embarrassed if not forced
to suspend. Such a thing must
not be thought of; with hundreds
of subscribers way behind on
their subscription it would be a
shame, not to the management)
but to those claiming to be its
friends. Let every one make an
efi’ort to advance their subscrip-
tion, if it be but a little, also
work for its extension and all
will be well.
While I retire from the man-
agement and ownership of the
paper I do not abate one whit of
niy interest in or zeal for the
cause that I advocate. Believ-
ing its principles to he founded
upon the eternal truth as taught
by the man of “Peace on earth
and good will toward men,” us
well as the “man of sorrows” I
esteem it a part of my religion
to lay down my life, if need be,
to nlantain tho grand truth that
the people—tho great honest peo-
ple—-and not the money ghouls
and political thieves, shall rule
this country.—Very truly vours.
J. W. Erwin.
Five years in the printing of-
fice has proved that my physical
constitution can not stand the con-

has proved the salutary effects of
a free and active life. In resign-

thank my many friends for their] BEST MADE, BEST FITTING, BEST WEARING
