April 15 Is Deadline
For Auto Inspection
Tho Texas Highway Patrol in-
vestigated 159 accidents in Mata-
gorda County and the Palacios area
during February, according to a
report released by Captain Glen
Rose, commanding officer of the
Houston area of the Texas High-
way Patrol.
The records show that 10 people
were killed and 57 others injured.
The causative factor in 10 of this
total shows that vehicles were de-
fective, such as brakes or steering,
and tire blow-outs accounted for
another five.
“This total number of accidents
in Matagorda County emphasizes
the need for car owners to have
their vehicles checked at an in-
spection station and the defects
corrected before a little trouble
becomes a big accident," Capt.
Rose stated.
April 15 is the deadline for hav-
ing all motor vehicles inspected
and the new inspection sticker dis.
played on the windshield. During
February the Highway Patrol filed
81 cases against drivers for de-
fective equipment and warned an
additional 601 for minor vehicle
defects. A big percentage of these
were defective lights, which the in-
spection would have found.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles McDonough
and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Bcr.ham
were Port Lavaca visitors Satur-
day.
Joseph Hofmann, the musician,
is also an inventor.
