DIZZY ANSWERS MR. TONEY
IT WAS NOT THE SCORE...BUT
THE REVERBERATION COUNTED
■
Thank you, Mr. Toney. You play-
ed the game well.
A year ago in our colun’n
“Dizzy,” we began the basic* for the
renewal of the annual grid battle
between Port Lavaca and Palacios
The annual game was the largest
drawing card for either school. It
was—and will be our largest of the
season—and would be your larg-
est a year from now, we believe.
We expected a good game . . .
win, lose, or draw . . . that it was!
t The game that was played last
Friday night was a surprise- -not
only to the “village between Mid-
way and Tidehaven”, but also from
*‘the class A A school across the
creek from Point Comfort”.
Mr. Toney, be reasonable—give
us a chance. In all your predictions
•(exception of the Sweeny game)
you have under-rated the Sharks.
The integrity of our coach was
doubted in your columns in last
week’s “Wave” in regards to the
tale of woe that was CORRECT!
Yes, that was our first team you
saw in casts and on crutches, and
the numbers on the back of the
jerseys were correct.
So much so that it won the game
for the Sharks.
The spark that lit the fuse that
set our few remaining players afire
was created by one of your coaches.
Planning A Trip?
BE SURE to consider this:
while you’re away, the lug-
gage, clothing, sports equip-
ment and other belongings
you take with you may be lost,
stolen or destroyed.
When traveling, you need
a Personal Effects policy,
Ask us about this broad,
wherever-y o u-g o protection.
Here’s the story:
Your Coach X: “Sharkey, do you
have a ‘B’ squad.”
Sharkey: “My Gawd, man, I only
had 24 out and six of them are in
casts. No!”
Your Coach X: “Then do you
have an open date? Our ‘B’ team
would like to play you.”
Sharkey: Silent . . .
That’s all it took, Mr. Toney.
Your ‘A’ team played our ‘B’
team Friday night . . . you didn’t
drive the Sharks into Matagorda
Bay, but your Sandcrabs scamper-
ed over the bluff into their holes
on the beach of Lavaca Bay.
You should be thankful that we
had so many injured. It kept the
game more even.
We’ll see you next year in Port
Lavaca, we hope. . . Oh yes, we do
hope the remainder of your sched-
ule is successful.
We had to write this, Mr. Toney,
too many readers expected an an-
swer. DIZZY

Experiments On Bikini
It was our privilege to be present
at the Rotary Club’s “Ladies’
Night” on September 24, to par-
take of the feast, and to enjoy the
excellent program. This consisted
largely of the showing of a color
film of the U. S. Navy’s experi-
ments with the Atomic Bomb on
Bikini Island. This is something
that all our citizens should see.
It was somew'hat exciting to
watch our Naval officers and men
as they went about making careful
preparations for the experiments,
but seeing the planes take off from
the Carriers, and roar away into
the distance, carrying their loads
of destruction, was much more so.
Soon they were flying over and
around Bikini dropping the bombs
at the required places. Soon came
the terrible detonation of explod-
ing A Bombs, followed by the aw-
ful, loudly reverberating roar as
the “toadstools” formed in fiery
colors and rose higher and ever
higher, boiling up in the tremendous
heat and mighty power of released
atomic energy. It was awesome, to
say the least!
It made me think of the Almigh-
ty Creator of heaven and earth,
and how He had locked into this
little planet of ours tremendous
powers and forces of which mat)
hardly dreamed so a short time
ago. When God finished His work
of creating this earth He turned
the product over to Adam with
this command, “Have dominion
over the earth—and subdue it.”
How slowly man has gone about
subduing the earth. How many ,nil-
leniums he has worked to bring
the elements and the hidden forces'
of nature under his power. Only
within the last century has he
brought electricity morn or less to
be his servant, and so it has been
with many of his modern dis-

I herewith take this means to

covcrics and inventions. Yet, these
powers have been here since the
dawn of creation.
Now that man holds in his hands
the Atomic and the Hydrogen
Bombs, yet knows little of con-
trolling their powers, what shall
the ending be?
We must remember that God, in
giving man dominion over the
earth, did not relinquish His
Sovereignity. He is the Supreme
Ruler now and forever. Since the
world is to be destroyed by fire at
the end, it might well be by atomic
fire. St. Peter, writing under the
power of God’s Holy Spirit, said:
“But the day of the Lord will
come as a thief in the night: in
which the heavens shall pass away
with a great noise, and the ele-
ments shall melt with fervent heat,
the earth also and the works that
are therein shall be burned up."
