U. O. of O. F. is now in a very
promising conditiom, her business
affairs are being so well looked after
by our trustees that her resources
are constantly on the increase, and
her treasury is in such splendid con-

proud to belong to such a strong
and well managed Lodge. At our

Wa were proud to see so many of
the Breteern present, it looked like
old times. This city is the home
of D.. G. M. Speaks, and he drops
in on us occasionally and encour-
ages us by his presence, and wine
ouncel. Brother G. Lyons of Sol-
omon Temple has been quite sick,
with typhoid fever; but we are glad
to 8ay|that he is now improving.

is the first thing
looked for by the rural folk of La.,
its as interesting to tliem as the en-
tire paper. We all know Arthur
and we endorse his talK almost to a
man. Arthur's talk for the abolu-
tion of the D. G. L. is a good one,
and we hope that at the next meet-
ing of the B. M. C. will do one of
two things, either give the D. G.
L. power to legislate or correct sev-
eral ambigious repetitions in the D.
G. L. Constitution or abolish the D.
G. L. and give us three commiss-
ioners appointed by the B. M. C.
for two years. The amount ex-
pended in convenings of the D. G.
L. for the amount of benefit deriv-
ed, is too great. It is painful to
witness the unfraternal actions, of a
certain coterie of Odd-Fellows, who
are also Masons, attempting to
hound a worthy brother from the
Order to the penitentiary, if poss-
ible, this same brother helps to
make these men what they are in
Order, and on two occasions dis-
rupting the Order, in the State,
very nearly, in order to place them
in prominent places, in the Grand
Lodge; they should be the last in
the Order to lift a linger against
him; yet they persecute him, and ii
they succeed he will fill a felons celj
and his family will be turned out of
a comfortable home, and become
charges on the public. His wife
has been an invalid for a number of
years. If the financial outlook
brightens, we will be with you at
Louisville in October.

getting along very nicely. We were

Dr. J. H. Coker died yesterday
afternoon, January 3rd, 1900.
Brother Coker was born in Wil-
mington, Deleware, and was 53
years of age. He came to this city
about twenty five years ago, and
was among the first to be admitted
to practice medicine, among our
race in this state. Bro. Coker was
a piominent member of Richmond
Lodge, I. A. A. M., and wras a
member of Pride of Louisiana Lodge
G. U. O. of O. F. in good stand-
ing. He was a prominent member
of several Labor Organizations, The
Cotton \ ard Men, B. A., Teamsteis
and Loaders Union, and several be-
nevolent organizations. His funer-
al took place from his late residence
1401 Saratoga Street, last Friday af-
ternoon. His remains were follow-
ed to their last resting place, by a
large concourse of friends.
In the death of Dr. Coker, our
Institution has lost a true friend,
one who endeared himself to its
membership. Pride of Louisiana
Ladge, at their next meeting, will
adopt suitable resolutiona, on his
demise.
