THE HOUSTON INFORMER, SATURDAY, JANUARY 27, 1923.
SOUTH’S GREATEST WEEKLY NEWSPAPER
THE COLORED WORKINGMEN & WOMEN’S
ASSOCIATION OF TEXAS
NO HUMBUG—NO SKIN GAME PROPOSITION
It is time we were getting together and doing something for ourselves. Let’s
put our hearts and minds together and pull.
Let us prepare for war in time of peace. We don’t know when the war will
start This Association covers all classes of colored workers, men and women.
Joining fee $2.50. Four monthly due rates. 12.00 gives $7.00 per week; $1.00
gives $3.50 per week, 75c gives $2.50 per week, 50c gives $2.00 per week for
sickness, hurt, or out of employment
The local will send $1.50 of the Joining fees to headquarters and keep $1.00
for the home treasury. - _
Bach local shall also keep $1.00 of all monthly dues for the home treasury.
In case a brother gets out of service, we will see after him.
In case a brother gets sick, we will see after him. In case of his death this
Association will look after his widow for at least a year.
If a brother is out of a Job and looking for work, this Association will ses
that his family does not suffer.
When a brother becomes totally disabled so he cannot work he will be paid
$25.00 per month until he Is able to work or dies.
In case a brother decides that he wants to sever his connection with this
Association one-half of the money he has paid in will be refunded to him If
he hasn’t drawn any benefit.
This Association wants to live in peace and harmony with all mankind and
stands for the uplift of humanity in general.
Read carefully and see what we workingmen and women can do If we only
come together. Are we going to remain swinging back against ourselves?
Race men and women wake up and let us do something; if we fail to do this
we are sitting down on our children.
We have made arrangements with Mr. R. T. Andrews, our Milam Street
grocer, to send groceries, at our expense, to all members In need; also with
Mr. Tom Lawson, wood and coal dealer, for fuel. How's that?
COME ON BOYS, DON’T SWING BACK—WE NEED MORE POWER.
Meeting Nights; 1st and 3rd Wednesday Nights in Each Month, Room 2,
Taborlan Building.

The ‘‘Perhaps*’ of Religion.
The “Perhaps” of religion Is so mag-
nificent, If It Is true; for It gives new
worth to everything! While, without
It, life Is at best petty, Its Interests are
shallow, and It passes away so soon 1
Indifference us to the truth of this
‘‘Perhaps” Is not easy for man and It
Is not wise.—Sir Henry Jones, in "A
Faith That Inquires.”
Chinese Telephone Exchange.
The “China” telephone exchange of
San Francisco Is unique. The build-
ing Is of Chinese architecture, the op-
erators are Chinese girls, and the Chi-
nese subscribers call by name instead
of numbers. The operators handle be-
tween seven anil eight thousand calls
daily.—Youth's Companion.

Has No Relation to Orange.
The usage orange tree is native to
the southwestern part of the United
States, and has no botanical rela-
tion to the true orange. It was first
found near a village of Osage Indians.
Tills, together with the fact that It
has fruit similar In appearance to the
orange, accounts for the name.
