Ninth Monthly Eeport—Approach-
ing Close of this Session—Recent
Examination, Etc.
To the Editor of the Daetton Crettd:
The ninth month of the scholastic
year having expired on Friday the
18th iost., a brief report, exhibiting
tho condition of the Denison Public
School at that time, is rospectfully
submitted. It has been wisely deci-
ded to regard tho annual session, as
consisting of ten echolastic months
of four weeks each. Accordingly,
the school will be closed on Friday,
June 15th. Th& last week of the
session will be devoted to examina-
tion work—particularly the last two
days, Thursday and Friday. The
patrons df the Benison Public
School, and tho public generally.are
cordially invited to attend. It is
believed that tho pupils will be
found prepared to entertain visitors
and at tho saino time, to show that
they have faithfully accomplished
the work prescribed for the present
session.
The following tables indicate the
standing of somo of tho pupils in
the written examination held at the
close of last month, only pupils of
the first, second, third and fourth
grades being noticed, and of these,
only such as made 70 per cent, or
mors:

Wo have not heard from New York.
Don’t squander your money tn
traveling shows, but go to Briggs
Lull to-night and see the “Queen of
Birds.”’
The sensation of the day has been
the political circulars of Mr. Gideon
Stevens. They have created much
amusement.

Dr. Dilzler is lecturing in Gaines-

the Doctor is a little egotistical. Wo
think so too.
Every day adds to the number of
Cofc cropped heads to be seen on
our streets. Nothing like being
comfortablo, especially when it is
fashionable.

' There has been a considerable
falling off in tbe attendance within
the last two or throe weeks. This,
however, is to bo attributed to sick-
ness among the younger pupils, of
whom quite a number' aro at this
moment suffering from the measles,
while others havo the whooping-
cough. But the attendance is still
large, and it is likely that those who
are absent, will soon bo ablo to re-
sume their studies.

Gideon Stevons is out in a procla-
mation, announcing himself as a
candidate for Mayor, at tho ensuing
election. His platform is rather a
curious political document, as tbe
following extract will show: “I
belong to no political faction, no
religious croed, nor secret organiza-
tion, but aland out on my own plat-
form, wbiob ia economy, punctuality
and eternal vigilance, but never
pray.” Mr. Stevens, like ali tbe
other candidates, is confident orift-
ing triumphantly elected.
