Thoughts to Reflect Upon.
From the Sedalia Democrat.
Every now anti then such tele-
graphic items as the following may
be read in the newspapers ot the
country;
“A party of French Agriculturists,
numbering seventy-nine men, women
and children, hare left Havre on their
way to Texas.”
"Four English colonies, numbering
altogether 512 men, women and children,
have left Liverpool for Galveston, Texas.
Agents sent ahead have purchased 200,-
000 acres of land. An immense English
emigration is getting ready to go to
Texas.”
“Scotland hns the Texas emigration
fever, and the most curious thing of all
is the Texas fever that lias invaded
To Prevent and Cure Coughs and

A’reliable remedy Is necessary inevery
household. Paiker’s Ginger Tonic is
just the medicine' needed. It radically
cures coughs, colds, sore throat snd even
consumption if used in time, bv its pow-

the throat and lungs. It accomplishes
the cure in a wonderfully short time, and
removes all pain and soreness from the
lungs. It is also a most valuable stomacic
remedy, effectually removing dyspepsia,
headache, liver disorders, costiveness,
nervousness, low spirits, wakefulness,
heartburn, cramps, palpitation ol the
heart, sour stomach, etc., and gives a
cheering comfort and freedom from pain
that surprises every one. Buy a 50 cent

Now, the lesson to be learned
Irom these paragraphs, and all the
balance like them, ia of a very signi-
ficent nature. Texas has a Demo-
cratic majority of ninety thousand,
and is in a certain sense the keystone
of the arch of the solid south. As
such of course the viali of the
wrath,of the eternal haters have
been ’ Doured out upon the
head of Texas. Every kill-
ing there was a political murder;
every crime of any sort was a Demo-
cratic deed done to defy the Union.
At the mention of the very name ot
Texas all the bloody shirts in the
land went to waving, and all the
God-and-morality newspapers went
to saying masses at the shrine of
Beecher. Emigration was warned
away from its borders, To the ex-
tent that partizan journalism can
quarantine anything, 'lexas was
quarantined. Its citizens were de-
nounced as cut-throats and its civili
zation as something worse than Zulu
atrocity.
And the result? An exodus from
Europe in the direction of Texas
which is simply abnormal. Nothing
like it has ever occurred in the settle-
ment of the country as regards a
single State. Over the ocean the
hot breaths of sectional jealousy and
envy blown from the columns of
dwarfed and venal newspapers, are
felt not so much as the stirring of
the air in the aspens. If the studied
lies are read at all they are put
to the credit side of that baffled Rad-
ical proscription which was beaten
loose from its hold upon the South
and made to go back to its bones and
its kennel. The rising tide of emi-
gration to Texas tells also another
story. It tells the slanderers and the
defamers of that magnificent empire,
loved of the sunshine and the sea,
that they are powerless to hurt it in
the value of a single settler; that
every foreigner worth having as a cit-
izen understands the animus and de- j -*• trading of chills, and all malarial dis-

SEWING HACHINE
Is wonderful In Its conception, un-
precedented for doing a large range of
sewing in textile fabrics and leather. Its
motions are continuous, admitting of an
extraordinary rate of speed, either by
steam or foot power. Every motion of the
treadle makes six stitches, thus produc-
ing about one-third more work in a day
than other Sewing Machines. It has no
stop motions, and tightens the stitch with
the needle out of the fabric. It uses the
well-known Wilson Compound Feed on both sides of the needle. It
has two-thirds less parts than any other first-class Sewing Machine.
Its arm is fully eight and one-half inches long and five and one-half
Inchos high, and the whole Machine Is very compactly and scien-
tifically constructed In proportions, eleganee, design and appear-
ance. Its simple, powerful and perfect mechanism places It as far
In advance of all other Sowing Machines as the telephone is superior
to tho tin speaking tube. The WIL8ON MENDINC ATTACHMENT,
