Grass Seed May
beSecuredFrom
AC Aby Farmers
Pasture grass seed may bo
purchased under the conserva-
tion materials program of the
Production and Marketing Ad-
ministration, 15. F. Vance, State
Director, PMA’s Field Service
Branch has announced.
Through this program eligible
farmers can obtain a seed pur-
chase order from the county
ACA office where the purchase
order plan is in operation. When
he buys his seed, the farmer
(pays the difference between the
cost of the seed and the conser
Ivation practice payment and
turns the purchase purchase or-
der over to the merchant for
the balance. ,For example, the
practice payment rate for the
use of Bermuda grass seed is 68
cents per pound. With an ap-
proved fair price of 75 cents
per pound under the purchase
order plan, the merchant must
look to the farmer for 7 cents'
per pound and PM A will pay the
•merchant 08 cents per pound.!
The merchant selling the seed
cr.n then present the purchase
order to the county ACA office,
and he will receive a check for
the PMA’s part of the seed
within approximately two weeks.
Generally speaking, the con-
servation practice payment
amounts to about 80 per cent of
the seed, Vonce said, Perennial
pasture grass seed qualifying for
payment under the program in-
clude bermuda, rhodes, weeping
lovegrass, crested wheatgrass,
blue panic and buffalo. Of these
seed, purchase orders can be'is-
sued for bermuda, rhodes and
blue panic. The other varieties
must be paid for in full by the
farmer, who will receive the
amount of the conservation
practice payment when his ap-
plication for payment is approv-
ed.
