when he comes before that group of men at
Austin, many of whom are already taking
jibes at him. Indeed, some of them are
waiting for the time when they can get at
him for what they consider overstepping
things in seeking to have work done by a
special body of advisers, rather than leav-
ing it to the upper and lower houses.
It is hinted that what was done at the
Beaumont convention it somewhat mild as
to what will really happen when the dogs
of war are released and the clash comes
on.
Mr. O’Daniel, it is stated, has been in-
formed as to what “that bunch" will do, or
try to do. The curtain was lifted to one

O’Daniel, His Mike And
the Legislature
When comes the time for the incom-
ing governor, W. Lee O'Daniel, to take his
place and match wits with the Legislature,
that gentleman is going to find it a great
deal harder to handle a bunch of men such
as they are and that parlor
$1 25 ......
$2^00 iel is said to have hesitated at facing them,
saying he could not go out on the platform.
If that is so, what will it be down at Aus-
tin?
There is no doubt but there is consid-
erable objection to his special advisory
board and it is very likely that the next
session of the Texas Legislature will prom-
ise something very lively indeed.
Already many of the bigwigs are ap-
prehensive of the whole tiling. Mr. O'Dan-
iel this week declared over his private mike
that he was ready for “the wrecking crew”
whoever they may be.
That statement fits in with what we
have in advance as being the expected
thing that will likely take place down at
Austin—an inexperienced man in the gov-
ernor’s chair, depending on a private com
mittee to tell him what to do, while the
rank and file of the boys who know all the
answers of politics and who have a working
knowledge of matters of state, will sit back
and bow their necks.

the farm of F. J. Basting near

past 70 years with not cultivation.
Basting harested a crop of hedge

Edward Worden, local youth, has
had three big days in his life. The
first was when he was 7 and was
ran over by a bus without bemg
hurt. The second came a few]
years later when an automobile
pinned him against a fence and;
he told the auto where to get off
by pushing it away. The third I

his luck at big game hunting and
brought down an elk.

even when they are in perfect or-

idea.
William, proud of his handi
work, welcomed a fellow tinkerer.
He showed him his dressing room
tea table which can be transform-
ed into a steam table. Also his re
volving hat rack with shelves foi
shoes. But what interested Lake
most was Warren’s home-made
kitchen clock assembled from odd
parts.
It wouldn’t run.
Lake, with tinkerish passion
rleaded for the chance to fix it
William, nothing loath, consented

works. i
Thus a great friendship was

of cogs and ratchets. And at the
same time the idea was formed
that, all tinkerers—brothers in the
make and break system—should
form a fraternity. Or maybe a
guild.
That’s the general idea. An'
