Insurance benefits to veterans
were materially extended when the
President signed a liberalised OI
Insurance bill last Friday. Lewis
Goodrich, Wheeler County Service
Officer, said this week.
Discussing the amendments to
the National Service Life Insurance
Act which became law last week,
Ooodrlch said OI insurance bene-
fits are now In line with those of
commercial insurance companies at
a great saving to the veteran.
"As originally enacted, National
Service Insurance was designed to
meet the needs of men and women
at war," Ooodrlch explained. “The
new amendments provide for liber-
alisation to make It more attractive
In peace time."
Principal changes In the amend-
ed act Include:
1. Lump sum payments to bene-
ficiaries if desired.
2. Total disability protection up-
on payment of a slight additional
premium.
3. Entitlement of all persons who
served In the armed forces between
October 9. 1940, and September 2,
1945, to apply for National Service
policies or to Increase the amount
of policies already in force.
4. More endowment types of
policies offered.
5. Removal of many restrictions
in the naming of beneficiaries.
"Holden of about six million
NSLI policies now In force are eli-
gible for the many benefits provid-
ed by thaw amendments." Oopd-
rich pointed out. K
“In addition, those veterahs who
formerly held some ten million pol-
icies that have lapsed may still be
entitled to reinstate them and take
advantage of the low cost protec-
tion provided for their famines by
GI Insurance.”
Lieut, and Mrs. Clyde Whittle,
daughter, Annette, and son. Gene,
arrived In Shamrock Monday from
Spokane, Wash,, to make their
home here. Lieut. Whittle, is on
terminal leave.
