Clubs Meet
The annual business meeting of
the Pakan Home Demonstration
Club was held Friday In the home
of Mrs. W. A. Allen.
Mrs. W. L. Walker, president of
the organization, presided. All
new committees for the year were
appointed and two new members,
Mrs Don Snyder and Mrs. A. D.
Payne, wei'e enrolled.

The next meeting will be held in

on spraying and pruning lruits will
be given.

club from the district agent at
College Station, stating that the
county demonstration agent bad re-
signed.
The members discussed the pro-
grams for this year’s meetings. The
following committees for this year
are appointed: Education^—Mrs.
Qassett, Mrs. Knox, and Mrs.
Tmklcr. Year Book—Mrs. Black-
erby, Mrs. Chapman, and Mrs. Riz-
zle. Marketing—Chainnan, Mrs.
Elliott.
Refreshments of cake and cocoa
were served to those present: Mmes.
Harold Butrum, C. Drum, Harris
D’Spain, O. T. Owens, Roy Gossett
and the hostess.

Programs for the year book were
completed by the group.
Mrs. W. L. Morrison gave the re-

A demonstration will be given on
spraying and pruning fruit trees.

Demonstration Club in the
home of Mrs. George Braxton,
January 25, the name of the club
was changed to Twltty Home Dem-
onstration Club.
Mrs. Hester Dodson gave some
Mrs. J. J. Baird left Saturday
for Dallas, where she will consult
a specialist concerning her foot,
which has been giving trouble. She
expects to be away about two weeks
and will visit in the home of her
son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and
Mrs. Robert Baird.

Mrs. Jack Montgomery entertain-
ed members of the Times Club and
a number of guests at her home
Thursday afternoon. Red carna-
tions and fern made an attractive
centerpiece on the dining room
table. 0
Mrs. Walter Darlington, Jr., pre-
sided over the business session and
Mrs. Charles Palmer was leader of
the program.
Mrs. George Stanley discussed,
"Conditions In China Today,” and
Mrs. C. L. Reavls gave the story of
"Burma And Her People.”
Mrs. P. T. Boston closed the pro-
gram with an interesting talk on
"India and World Organization.”
At the close of the program, Mrs.
Palmer displayed a Sari from India,
and demonstrated how they were
worn.
Refreshments'were served during
the social hour to the following
guests: Mmes. Temple Atkins, Sr.,
J. H. Caperton, 8. L. Draper, and
Pedro Dial, and to these members:
Mmes. M. A. Leith, Charles Pal-

The W. S. C. S. of the First
Methodist Church met at the
church Monday afternoon, for the
monthly business meeting, with
Mrs. Albert Ryan presiding.
Mrs. William Kyle led the open-
ing prayer after which the group
sang, “Living For Jesus,” with Mrs.
H. T. Fields at the piano.
Following the business session,
Mrs. William F. Holmes had charge
of the lesson, the theme of which
was, “Stewardship Of Peace.” Mu-
sical numbers were given in con-
nection with the parts of the pro-
gram.

MRS. EVA DAVIS BRIDE
OF MR. PAUL E. STARR
Announcement was made
Shamrock this week of the mar
riage of Mrs. Eva Davis of this city,
and Mr. Paul E. Starr of Welling-
ton, which took place at Childress
Wednesday. January 16.
The nuptial vows were spoken at
high noon in a single ring cere-
mony, in the study of Minister
Ernest McCoy of the Childress
Church of Christ, who officiated.
The bride, who is well-known in
Shamrock, was attired in an off-
white dress of wool, accented with
gold trim. She wore a black hat
trimmed in the matching gold and
used black accessories. Her
shoulder corsage was of red rose'
buds.
Mrs. Starr has made her home
in Shamrock for the past 22 years,
and owned and operated the Rose
Beauty Shoppe until about a year
ago.
Mr. Starr, a resident of Collings-
worth County for the past 42 years,
is er«aged in farming, ranching
and the gin business. He is an ac-
tive member of the Masonic Lodge.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Starr are
mmbers of the Church of Christ.
Following the wedding the cou-
ple made a trip to Fort Worth, and
are now at home in Wellington.

ELECTION NOTICE
Whereas, the City Council of the
City of Shamrock, Texas, deems it
advisable to issue the bonds of the
said City, for the purpose herein-
after mentioned:
"THEREFORE BE IT ORDER-
ED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SHAMROCK, TEX-
AS, that an election be held on
Wednesday, February 13, 1946, at
which election the following prop-
osition shall be submitted:
"Shall the City Council of the
City of Shamrock, Texas, be au-
thorized to issue the bonds of the
said City of Shamrock in the sum
of Twenty Thousand ($20,000.00)
Dollars, payable serially one to
twenty years from their date, with
option of redemption at any time
after five years from their date,
bearing interest at the rate of three
and one-half per cent per annum,
the Interest payable annually, and
to levy a tax sufficient to pay the
interest on said bonds and to create
a sinking fund sufficient to redeem
them at maturity, for the purpose
of erecting or purchasing a hospi-
tal in the City of Shamrock, Tex-
as, as authorized by the Constitu-
tion and Laws,of the State of Tex-
as.
“The said election shall be held in
the City Hall, in said City, and the
following named persons are here-
by appointed officers to hold said
election: Henry Holmes, Presiding
Judge, Mrs. Flake George, Judge,
Mrs. E. K. Caperton and Essie
Holmes, Clerks.
“Said election shall be held un-
der the provisions of Chapters One
and Seven, Title 22, Revised Civil
Statutes of 1925, and the manner
of holding the same shall be gov-
erned by the laws regulating gen-
eral elections so far as practicable,
and only qualified voters who are
property tax-paying voters of said
City shall be entitled to vote at
said election.
‘That all voters who favor the
foregoing proposition to issue bonds
for the purpose of erecting or
purchasing such hospital shall have
written or printed on their ballots
the words:
‘ ‘For the issuance of bonds.’
•Those opposed shall have writ-
ten or printed on their ballots the
words:
“ ’Against the issuance of bonds.’
•That a copy of this order sign-
ed by the Mayor, attested by the
Secretary of the City of Shamrock,
Texas, shall serve as a proper no-
tice of said election, and the City
Secretary is hereby directed to
cause such notice of election to be
posted in each of the electicn pre-
cincts of such City, and at the
City Hall, one of which shall be
in the City Secretary’s Office, not
less than fifteen nor more than
thirty days from the date of said
election, and the Secretary shall
also cause such notice to be pub-
lished on the same day of two suc-
cessive weeks in a newspaper of
general circulation published with-
in said City of Shamrock, the date
of the first publication to be not
less than fourteen days prior to the
date set for said election.”

ranch.

dents at W.T.S.C. Reavis had a

DINNER-BRIDGE GIVEN

A dinner-bridge was given in the
Walter Darlington home Tuesday
evening, when members of the Tues-
day bridge club and their husbands
were entertained.
In the dining room an attractive
arrangement of yellow jonquils and
fern, flanked with yellow antique
candlesticks holding yellow tapers,
centered the lace covered table.
Pink and white carnations decorat-
ed the living room.
The dinner was served on small
tables centered with silver candle-
sticks holding lighted candles. Sil-
ver and crystal appointments com-
pleted the setting.
Bridge provided entertainment
during the evening with high score
prize for ladies being awarded to
Mrs. Hubert Tindall, 'and high score
for men to Rufus Dodgen. Low
prize for ladies went to Mrs. Carl
Ltnkey and low for men to J. H.
Caperton. At bingo, Jack Mont-
gomery was tile winner.
Those present Included: Messrs,
and Mmes. Bill Walker, S. L. Dra-
per, E. K. Caperton, Royce Lewis,
Rufus Dodgen, J. H. Caperton,
Carl Linkey, 8. Q. Scott, Jack
