possible His forgiveness when His Son, Jesus Christ, died and rose
again. This is the Gospel, “the power of God unto salvation to every-
one that believeth" (Romans 1, 16) When a man learns of God’s
offer, accepts it as true, and counts on it for his own forgiveness, the
Holy Ghost has made him a believer! And he is saved! Everyone who
it a Christian believes this! 4
Evcn'one who is t Christian does something about it, too. A
believer is a different person. He imnfi to do God s will. He doesn't
always manage it, but he tries. A man of faith will be judged on his
works of faith. «
• When danger threatens a baby monkey, it jumps on its mother's
back and hold; on as she leaps to safety. It would be only a mark
of his immaturity for the baby to claim it had been saved by its
own efforts, even though it would have been lost without them. ,
k That’s what the Lutheran Church means when it says men are
saved “by grace alone, by Christ alone, by faith alone.”
