Port Aransas South Jetty
Shop late on Thursdays
A shop at home campaign kicks
off today, Thursday, Dec. 1, when
several merchants will stay open
late.
The merchants will stay open late
every Thursday through Dec. 22 to
give Christmas shoppers extra hours
to shop at home.
The merchants’ committee of
the Port Aransas Chamber of Com-
merce-Tourist Bureau launched the
campaign to encourage residents
to do their Christmas shopping at
home, said Ann Bracher Vaughan,
executive director of the chamber
of commerce.
Christmas shoppers are encour-
aged to visit Port Aransas merchants
before driving out of town, shopping
online or ordering from catalogues.
The Port Aransas shopping expe-
rience, Vaughan said, offers unique
and often one-of-a-kind gifts, gifts
with a Texas twist for those want-
ing to acquaint out of state relatives
and friends with their new or winter
home. Often the selection and prices
are better than those offered by the
large chain stores in metropolitan
areas, Vaughan said.
“Shopping at home saves not
only time and money, but reduces
the stress of the holidays,” Vaughan
said.
“More importantly, shopping at
home ensures that our hometown
merchants will remain a part of our
business community,” she said.
Participating merchants will stay
, open until at least 7 p.m. every Thurs-
day starting today and continuing
through Dec. 22.
The later hours offer working
shoppers a more relaxed alternative
to lunch-hour or weekend shopping,
Vaughan said.
Participating merchants, featured
in an ad on Page 6A of this edition
of the South Jetty, are Gratitude,
Chilla’s, Cita Resort Interiors, Gar-
nier Design, Island Woman boutique,
Susan Castor Collection, Port ‘A’
Outfitters, Art Center for the Islands,
Suzie’s Boutique, Jo D’s Etc., Patio
and Interiors, Saltgrass Boutique
and the South Jetty newspaper Gift
Shop.
