PRAISE FOR THE T. P. AND L.
, Public power advocates won a victory in the Senate
Tuesday when that body by a close 45 to 38 vote restored
the $9,0004)00 fund for the Southwestern Power Adminstra-
Uon for the year ending June 30, 1950.
The committee had cut the amount to a little more than
CM third of the requested sum and it took a floor fight in the
Senate to return the fund to its original size.
We were impressed not so much by the victory for the
public power advocates as we were by the unanimous en-
dorsement given the Texas Power and Light Company by
both sides in the fight.
The company, which serves this area as well as north
and northeast Texas, has a contract with SPA for the tran-
mission of public-produced power over its facilities, and that
contract has been held up as a model for futher contracts
between the public power administration and private utilities
companies.
In the argument before the Senate, Senator Lyndon
Johnson and other advocates of public power, declared that
“other utility companies arc not fair as and public-spinted j
ms the T. P and L." and argued that the SPA must have!
funds for its own transmission lines in order to assure its
getting the same fair contracts from other companies.
Other advocates of the increased fund paid the same
high tnbute to the Texas Power and Light Company, while
those who fought the increase in funds argued that the SPA
ajbould contract with other companies the same as it has
with T. P. and L.
In other words, while the senators differed on (he a-
mount of funds to be spent on public power projects of SPA.
they all agreed that the Texas Power and Light company is
due the commendation of the public for its policies.
Citizens of this area, which is served by the light com-
pany. have long since learned this fact; we are pleased to see
It get recognition on the floor of the Senate.

The staging of our rodeo brings the people closer to-
gether. It is a rallying point for mil to work for, not for
profit and because Dublin citizens enjoy doing it. This hms
been the case from the very firmt mnd is still m fact. Dublin
has found that it’s lots of fun putting on m rodeo and thmt
is one of the biggest reasons why the rodeo is what it is.

In speaking for the people of our town it is well to
publicly thank Mr. and Mrs. Everett Colborn for their won-
derful part in this show, for without them their just would-
n't be any rodeo at all. We’re glad that these good people
and their entire personnel are proudly called Dublinites too.
The people appreciate the fact that they live here and a
bove all. that they work so hard to put on the big rodeo that
we have had for the past ten years.

Thu* year is the tenth big rodeo staged by Mr. Colburn
and the citizens of our town. The first time that anything
like this is given it seems that alt the people are really glad
thmt the town could have such an event As the years go
by mnd the big show is g\yen. a few have a tendency to accept
Klim matter of course. Others might let themselves be-
come indifferent, while a select few are prone to knock any-
thing for no reason at all.

Square Rodeo even after ten years. This year there
have been hundreds that have worked hard and it seems
thmt those others that were not needed for actual work have
responded with enthusiasm. This is indeed good.
The attitude of the people is wonderful for more rea-

The rodeo benefits all in a business way. This is
true of every merchant in town regardless of the kmd of bua-
hms. Even the business that does not sell anything direct-
ly connected with the show ia helped, because it brings mon-
ey to town. , The first business thought of to benefit are
the printing office, the cafes, the hotels, and the service sta-
tions. But the auto supply houses benefits for cara are run
■ora and consequently more parts will be needed in time,
the grocery store sells more to feed hundreds of visitors in
town, the dry goods merchant sells rodeo clothes of all kinds,
the variety stores sell decorations and toys and buttons for
riothse because of the rodeo, the furniture man sella a chair
ST table because a need is created because of the visitors,
the barber shops do more and the beauty shops in fixing up
