Overland Trail and the Marcy
Route by Bob Montgomery
Civic leader and local historian
Bob Montgomery will discuss the
role of Capt. R. B. Marcy in map-
ping the Marcy Trail and its rela-
tionship to the Butterfield Over-
land Trail. A copy of the Marcy
Map is on permanent display on
the first floor of the Courthouse-
on-the-Square.

Bayless-Selby House Museum
(BSHM): Ensembles from Denton
Bach Society in the music room
will perform Christmas carols and
other Christmas favorites, thanks
to a grant from the Holiday Fes-
tival Association.
Holiday Lighting: Thursday, Decem-
ber 4, 2008: Come-and-go: 6 - 8
p.m.
Denton County African American
Museum (DCAAM): The Museum
will be decorated for the Holi-
days, and visitors may enjoy
Christmas carols and other tradi-
tional music to be performed by
members of the American LegionVisit the exhibit in the museum,
Historic Hispanic Families of
Denton County and view the art
exhibit in the 1 t floor hallway
sponsored by the Visual Arts Soci-
ety of Texas. Enjoy the entertain-
ment on the Courthouse lawn in-
cluding ballet folkl6rico groups,
mariachis, Latin jazz ensemble and
much more. A celebration in coop-
eration with the Courthouse-on-
the-Square Museum, Denton LU-
LAC Council #4366, the Denton
Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
and DATCU and other community
organizations and businesses. This
program is in celebration of His-
panic Heritage Month.

Strauss Genealogy librarian at
the Emily Fowler Central Library,
Kathy Strauss, will

Wood, flute, and Diane Finney,
flute who will be "wowing"
their entourage of fans. Song-
books are provided.

of Harp at the University of
North Texas, will perform a
very special Christmas evening
for visitors to downtown. These
concerts will be presented with
support of the Greater Denton
Arts council, The Arts Guild of

dowment for the Arts, the City
of Denton, the County of
Denton, and the Historical Park
Foundation of Denton County,
Inc.discuss the orphan trains and the
children who became part of
Denton County.

Workshop BSHM: Saturday,
November 15, and December
6, 1:30 - 3 p.m. Susannah Lind-
say McLaughlin will teach atten-
dees how to make snowflakes
and angels in the Victorian style
for your Christmas decor. The
workshop is $5 per person and
you take what you make.
Please call for a reservation, as
seating is limited.
Docents: Telling the Story: There
are time slots available if any
of you would like to volunteer at
the museums. Please call Robyn
Lee, Historical Park Manager, at
940-349-2865, to volunteer.
Remember, it is not necessary to
commit for a time every week,
though many of the docents do.New Column in the
Denton Record-Chronicle
Museum Curator, Kim Cupit is
now writing a monthly history
column for the Denton Record-
Chronicle. Her first article was
published on August 11,
2008, "Evolution of Downtown
Denton." This article was a full
page, including photographs
showing the changes of the
west side of the Square from
1876, 1889, 1956, and
1974. In September, we will
have a guest columnist, Bob
Montgomery, who will write
about the Butterfield Over-
land Trail.Playing Cards, 2nd Edition
The next edition of the playing
cards is being planned at this
time. If you would like to spon-
sor a card, contact Kate Lynass,
Museum Specialist, at the mu-
seum office, 940-349-2850.
