If the National editorial Association

Post Office Rule Delays

Delivery of Weeklies.

The Post Office department at
Washington has estabashed through-
out the country certain terminal of-
fices io which the weekly papers
•re sent instead of lieing sorted on
the railway mad trains. The result
is that they are delayed Lorn 12 to
48 hours every week in delivery.
Doily papers are given the right of
way and come through far more
promptly. Both pay the same rate
•f postage and it is unfair to show
any discrim nation.
A paper published not over 65
■files from St. Paul slates that while
Mo publication is in St. Paul by Fri-
day night it frequently does not
reach its subscribers until Monday
Or Tuesday of the following week.
The people have a right to better
service and the National Editorial
association is going to see if this
discrimination against the weekly
paper cannot be removed. If you
•re having similar trouble write
your congressman to get busy with
the Post Office department. — Trie
Publishers’ Auxiliary.
^ This is the best news newspapers
■? have been given since the terminal
Newspaper a Forum.
A weekly paper is the property
of the community in which it is
published, and not an organ in
which one or two men air their
views. Everyone has, or should
have, a kind of proprietary interest
in it—a personal interest, for often
it tells of things that vitally affect
you. The big daily paper tells
stories of affairs of national interest;
but the main purpose of a weekly
paper is to set forth the happenings
in its immediatewicinity. The com-
munity is as active and as good as
the paper in most cases; and the ]
paper is, generally as alive and as con8trUetion of
good as the community which it
serves. — Virginia (Culpepper Va.)

A bid of $200,364.06 for the sur-
facing of the Lancaster road made
by Wear & Thomas, and one $221,-
741.08 for the base of the road,
made by Fuller &. Co., were accept-
ed by the County Commissioners’
Court Monday afternoon The coun-
ty is to furnish 31,300 cubic yards
of crushed stone and 40.000 yards of
native stone at a ^ost of $94,000,
which will bring the total cost of
the road to $516,105.14. This
amount will be paid out of the fund
of $6,500,000 which was raised last
year for the building of roads by a
county bond issue.
The Lancaster road begins at Dal-
las city limits on Ewing avenue Oak
Cliff and extends through Lisbon
and Lancaster to the Ellis county
line, a distance of fourteen and a
half miles. Contractors informed
County Engineer Jack Witt that
they would be ready to start actual
construction within three weeks.
The contract calls for the comple-
tion of theToad by Nov. 1, 1923.
The road will be built with a rock
macadam base, surfaced with a one
and one-half inch asphaltic binder
course, which will be topped with
a one inch sheet of asphalt.
Three grade crossings on the pres-
ent road will be eliminated by the
underpasses where
the interurban intersects the road
in Trinity Heights; one mile north
of Lancaster and three miles south
of Lancaster.
