Federat ion’s Lion of Judah,
Pomegranate reception
A broad spectrum of Jewish women,
which believes in giving back to the
community, came together on Oct.
29 for the Lion of Judah Society and
Pomegranate Division annual kickoff.
Mindy Mitzner hosted the celebration
and fundraising event at her home
for the Jewish Federation of Greater
Houston’s Women’s Campaign.
Women’s Campaign chair, Jill Levy,
said the attendees were “a sophisti-
cated group of Federation women wiio
understand the commitment and what
we’re doing for the Jewish people.”
Given the current economic climate,
Levy said she was pleased this year’s
kickoff event raised $185,382 for the
campaign, which reflects an increase
of 9.91 percent from last year’s event.
Levy said she believes the Jewish value
of tzedakah will prevail and that even
in tough times, “a certain amount of
charity money is set aside no matter
what, and that if at all possible, we
need to forgo the luxuries and the
niceties and know that we need to still
stand as one people and one commu-
nity to help the less fortunate.”
Speaker Lori Klinghoffer, who has
served as United Jewish Communi-
ties’ National Women’s Philanthropy
Campaign chair since June 2007 and
as a member of the National Women’s
Philanthropy Board since June 2001,
