Entries Needed
For Miss White
Deer Competition
The Jaycees are seeking entries
in the 1964 Miss White Deer con-
test to be held July 25.
Miss Janie Gordzelik, Miss White
Deer of 1963, when asked about her
reign as Miss White Deer, stated:
“The past year has really been
an experience for me. I have en-
joyed being Miss White Deer so
much. The preparation and the an-
ticipation was well worth waiting
for. The training I received from
Madeline Horn helped me very
much in the contest and I am still
benefitting from it.
The contest in Perryton was a
lot of fun. I met so many nice
girls and we were always doing
something exciting. It was a great
experience for me — one I won’t
soon forget. I want to urge all of
the girls to enter the Miss White
Deer contest this year.”

Patrons Review
Callboard Theatre
Plans on Television
Early risers last Monday morning
saw Callboard Theatre and the city
of White Deer honored once again
on Channel 10 in an interview on
their early morning news program.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Smith, Bill
Gann, Roger Simmons and Kim
Wheetley certainly presented the
brief history of the Callboard The-
atre, reasons which prompted the
birth of the idea, and the backing
and interest of all the citizens in
the finest possible way.
All the film taken earlier, of the
many performances in productions
already underway, were shown.
Kim and Roger discussed the
plays which herald the formal op-
ening of the Callboard on July 3rd
and 4th.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith gave brief
descriptions of the cuttings which
were shown and their reasons for
giving up a vacation to Mexico to
venture into the theatre business.
The citizens portion of the theatre
story was well expressed by Bill
Gann and should interest more cit-
izens into taking a more active
part in all phases of the summer
theatre.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Miller plan to
leave Friday for Chickasha, Okla.,
to spend the weekend with Mr. Mil-
ler’s mother, who underwent sur-
gery on Monday of this week. Her
condition is reported as satisfactory.
Lonnie Kotara, Pampa, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kalka and a for-
mer White Deer resident, is now
in Veterans Hospital In Amarillo
with a badly broken arm, suffered
after a fall from a windmill.
Russell Nicholson was honored
with a surprise birthday supper
and gifts last Wednesday evening
by his children and grandchildren.
Their daughter, Mrs. Wilson and
family of Houston, were unable to
attend.
Mr. Bill Hood of Pampa, formerly
a White Deer resident and father of
Mrs. Willie Urbanczyk, is a patient
in Worley Hospital in Pampa where
he is ill suffering from a coronary
condition.
It’s the waterworks’ job to take
over the task of collecting water,
transporting water and making sure
that the water delivered is safe for
human consumption and suitable
for human use, 24 hours a day, 365
days a year. And that’s what you
pay for when you pay your water
bill.
ENGAGEMENT
Mr. and Mrs. John T. Morris an-
nounce the engagement and ap-
proaching marriage of their
daughter, Karen Edith (Kem) to
Thomas Howard Lester, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Lester of
Skellytown. The couple will be
married Aug. 22 in the First
Methodist Church of White Deer.
Daughters Of The
Pioneers Club Met
To Hear Program
The Daughters of the Pioneers
Club met Tuesday in the First
Methodist Church for their regular
luncheon. Hostesses were Mrs. L.
C. O’Neal, Mrs. Orman Bentley,
Mrs. Morley Doss and Mrs. Ever-
ett Williams.
Following the luncheon, a busi-
ness meeting was held presided ov-
er by Mrs. Loyd Collis, president.
Mrs. Russell McConnell gave a
most interesting program on the
story of the early life and history
of the McConnell family. Mr. Rus-
sell McConnell’s father arrived in
Gray County in 1906 and purchased
a plot of land, later purchasing an-
other plot in Carson County across
from the Gray County property.
These plots grew into the land hold-
ings of today. Mr. McConnell, who
died in 1926, spent his lifetime farm-
ing and raising cattle. Mrs. McCon-
nell gave a very good account of
the way of life in the area in the
early part of the century.
Members present were Mrs. E. C.
Shuman, Mrs. J. C. Simmons, Mrs.
Russell McConnell, Mrs. Loyd Col-
lis, Mrs. Russ Howard, Mrs. H. W.
Buchanan, Mrs. Joe Seitz, Mrs. Jo
Skaggs, Mrs. T. H. Kelly, Mrs.
George Coffee, Mrs. Everett Wil-
liams and Mrs. Frank Kuns.
The next meeting will be fifth
Tuesday in September.
