Christmas will be celebrated is-
land style in Port Aransas with
Carolers Afloat and the Boat Light-
ing Parade and Contest on Dec. 11.
The event is sponsored by the
Port Aransas Chamber t)f Com-
merce-Tourist Bureau in coopera-
tion with the Port Aransas Boat-
men, Inc.
Boatloads of carolers will lead
the lighted boat parade around the
city marina, then return to the
Roberts Point Park Fred Rhodes
Memorial Pavilion where Santa
Claus will hear the Christmas
wishes of island children.
Boat owners and captains may
enter the Boat Lighting Contest by
calling the chamber at 749-5919 or
going by the chamber office, 421

day, Dec. 8.
A limited number of seats are avail-

those who want to join the carolers
on the boats leading the parade —
especially children — should go to the
pavilion and pick up numbered cards
shortly before 6 p.m.
“When we’re out of cards, we’re
out of space on the boats,” said
Ann Bracher Vaughan, executive
director of the tourist bureau.
Holders of numbered cards may
board the WLafrCat or the Island
Queen II at Roberts Point Park at
' 6 p.m. Departure will be promptly
at 6:30 p.m. when the boats of car-

Santa Claus and his “elves”,
aboard a Coast Guard boat, will
bring up the rear of the parade,
then dock at the pavilion to hear
the Christmas wishes of the island
children beginning right after the
parade, at about 7:30 p.m.
Reception to
honor Kalke
After nearly three decades of bal-
ancing checkbooks, filling out pay-
checks, paying bills, calculating bud-
gets and making deposits, Debby
Kalke is hanging up her calculator.
Kalke, business manager for the
Port Aransas Independent School
District since 1990 and assistant to
the business manager for nearly 10
years prior to that, is calling it quits.
She’s turning in her ledger for a real
estate license that she is hanging at
Port Aransas Realty.
The community is invited to bid
her farewell at a reception on
Wednesday, Dec. 8, from 3:30 to 5
p.m. It will be held at the adminis-
tration building on Station Street.
