To Stay Unchanged

(AP) — Thf board of directors of-
Texas A. sfnd M. college yester-
day announced It “contemplate*
no changes in the military status”
of the school.
The announcement, in effect,
was a denial of a statement by
| Rep. Olin E. Teague of Bryan in
Washington that the board in-
tended to. change A. and M. from
a military college to a civilian-
basis ROTC school. f.

Admiral Merrill !fo
Retire in August
Hear Adntfral A. Stanton Mer-
rill,- commanding olticer of the
Eighth Naval district, will retire
in August, the Associated Press
reported today. He will be suc-
ceeded by Rear Admiral Lawrence
F. Reifsnider.
Admiral Merrill is 57 and a vet-
eran of both world wars.
■ Admiral Reifsnider is now ad-
ministrator of the amphibious
forces', Pacific, with headquarters
at Coronada, Calif. He also is a
veteran of both wars. Tn August,
1942, his transport group landed
elements of the first marine di-
vision on Guadalcanal in the first
amphibious operation against the
Japanese.
