Operation Game Thief announces sporting clay shoot
Want a chance to figura-
tively shoot back at poach-
ers without going to jail?
Here's how.
Operation Game Thief
(OGT), the wildlife crime
stoppers outfit, is holding
several clay bird benefit
shoots this spring to raise a
little money to help Texas
Parks and Wildlife game
wardens call a halt to people
poaching game and fish.
Poaching's a crime, and it's
got to stop!
The public can participate
in crimping the style of
game and fish criminals by
coming out to the shoot at
Texas Disposal Systems
Exotic Game Ranch and
Pavilion at Creedmoor,
south of Austin, on Friday,
April 24 to shoot some clay
birds, eat a scrumptious
meal prepared by the Game
Warden Cooking Team and
hang out with like-minded
sportsmen dedicated to
helping the wardens do
their job.
Austin Gun dealer, Joe
McBride, OGT Committee
Chairman and a sponsor of
the event summed up the
shoot by saying, "There
aren't many functions where
you can be doing something
worthwhile and still have
this much fun!" Even the
Governor usually partici-
pates. It'll be a blast!
Five-man teams can enter
for $1,000; individual
shooters are $200. Shells
are furnished for 12 and 20
gauges. Top shooters will
choose from several prized
bird hunts.A raffle offers a
chance to win a gun.
But the real winner is
game and fish law enforce-
ment, since the proceeds
help OGT operate a 24-hour
toll free hotline for report-
ing violations (1-800-792-
GAME[4263]), provides
death benefits for families
of officers killed in the line
of duty and helps purchase
needed equipment for war-
dens. Sponsorships are still
available, starting at
$1,500.
Registration deadline for
shooters is April 16. For
information on the Austin
shoot, contact Gina at 512-
332-9880 or
gnevents@austin.rr.com.
Two other OGT shoots are
planned for Laredo on May
30 and Edinburg on October
10. Contact Lt. Eric
Howard(above) for informa-
tion on those shoots. For
more information on OGT,
see http://www.ogttx.com.
