Big Country Dance
The Big Country Dance
will be held from 7:30-
10:30 p.m,. Monday, Sept.
7, at the Nolan County
Coliseum Annex. Admission
is $5 per person and enter-
tainment will be provided
by Exit 249. This month's
dance will be a time of cel-
ebration for Tommy Harvel
who has been inducted into
the Western Swing Hall of
Fame.
City Offices Closed
The City of Sweetwater
business offices will be
closed on Monday, Sept. 7,
2009, for Labor Day. There
will be no residential reuse
collection on that day. The
commercial refuse will be
collected as scheduled. The
Citizen's Drop-Off Center
and Type IV Landfill will
also be closed on Monday,
Sept. 7, and will resume
regularly scheduled hours
on Tuesday.
Tuesday, Sept. 8
Diabetes Outreach
The Rolling Plains
Memorial Hospital
Diabetes Outreach program
will be having a support
group meeting at 2 p.m.
Tuesday, Sept. 8, in the ER
Classroom. Participants are
asked to enter at the outpa-
tient entrance. Everyone is
welcome to attend.
Masons
Sweetwater Masonic
Lodge $571 will have a stat-
ed meeting Tuesday, Sept.
8. Dinner will begin at 5:30
p.m. and a meeting will fol-
low at 6:30 p.m. EA, FC and
masters are urged to attend.

Wednesday, Sept. 9
Adult Literacy
The Adult Literacy/ESL
class will meet at 10 a.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 9, at
the County-City Library.
Instructors will help partici-
pants learn to read, improve
their reading skills, improve
their English skills and help
them read to their children.

Cholesterol Screening
September is National
Cholesterol Education
Month and Rolling Plains
Memorial Hospital will
sponsor a free cholesterol
screening. The screening
will take place from 8-11:30
a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10,
2009, at the Sweetwater-
Nolan County Health
Department.
SYFL Raffle Drawing
The Sweetwater Youth
Football League is holding a
raffle/fundraiser. Winners
will receive two tickets to
the Dallas Cowboys vs.
New York Giants football
game, which is the season
opener at the new Cowboys
Stadium. You can buy one
raffle ticket for $10, two
for $15, or three for $25.

board member, or contact
the president of SYFL, Ron

Story Hour
Story Hour at the County-
City Library for parents and
their children wall take place
at 10:45 a.m. Thursday,
Sept. 10. Dee Ann Mulanax
will lead the parents ad chil-
dren in stories and songs.

Sweetwater
Homecoming
Sweetwater High School
will have their homecom-
ing activities Friday, Sept.
11. Activities are sponsored
by the SHS student coun-
cil. The theme this year is
"Mustangs in 'IV Land." The
Exes Tea will begin at 1:45
p.m. in the school cafeteria.
The pep rally will begin at
2:30 p.m. and the parade
will begin at 4:30 p.m.
Saturday, sept. 12
Homecoming Dance
The Sweetwater High
School class of 1974 will
sponsor a homecoming
dance from 8:30 p.m. to
midnight Saturday, Sept.
12, at the Sweetwater Elks
Lodge. Entertainment
will be provided by the
Screamin' Moon Dogs and
cost of admission is $6 per
person. The public is invited
to attend.
Art Show
Artists of Eastland County
(Art Guild) will be hold-
ing their Second Annual
Autumn Leaves Art Show
andSaleonSeptemberi2-i3,
2009 inside the Eastland
County Museum. The
judge this year is Vonnie
W. Kohn, internation-
ally recognized artist from
Weatherford. More than
$1800 in cash prizes will
be awarded. Artists from
within a 150-mile radius of
Eastland County are invited

Seasonal Flu Shots
The Sweetwater-Nolan
County Health Department
will be administering sea-
sonal flu shots on Thursday,
Sept. 17, and Friday, Sept.
18, from 8:30-11:30 a.m.
and 1-4:30 p.m. This vac-
cine will not include the
H1N1 vaccine. Adult flu
shots will be $20 and pneu-
monia shots will be $50.
The health department
accepts Medicare Part B and
any Medicare supplement
insurance. Cards must be
presented at the time of the
clinic. There are no vaccines
for children at this time. The
public will be notified when
they become available. Flu
shots will not be given on
Wednesday during regular
immunization clinic hours.

The Nolan County Crime
Stoppers Crime of the Week
involves several car burglar-
ies in Sweetwater. Sometime
Monday night, May 4, or
early Tuesday morning,
May 5, unknown person(s)
entered unlocked vehicles
in an area of the northeast
part of Sweetwater and
stole several items. Taken in
the burglaries were checks,
cell phones, a laptop com-
puter, and iPod and a hand-
gun. Crime Stoppers will
pay up to $1,000 in cash
as a reward for information
received this week that leads
to an arrest or indictment in
this case. Call 235-TIPS or
