Proclamation—Mothers* Day.
Devoe Takes Least Gal*
It is to be hoped that the cus-
tom of designating a day in each
year as “Mothers Day” will be*
come a permanent o1^ in this state
It is a beautiful recognition of our
best friend on earth, and the offi
cial designation of the second Sun
day in May enables all people to
unite in paying tribute and ex
pressing their love-^-a love that all
good mothers inspire and deserve
Some of ns would be better and
feel more worthy of the world’s
honors and goods if our sainted
Mothers could be beside us and
help us with their love and advice
to meet the duties of the hour and
to dischargethem properly. It is
our mothers that instill into our
hearts the best principles of our
lives. At Mothers knee, where we
used to rest our little heads and
receive the gentle touch of her lov
ing bands and the benedictions of
her kiss and prayers, we learned
the first great principles of correct
living.
I adjure all the men, women and
children in Texas to recognize the
debt of gratitude we owe to our
mothers by rendering to them
obedience, respect and lovingly
observe the duties due them
throughout the entire year, and
that all join in paying them one
grand tribute on Mothers Day. It
has been said that the best preach
er is the heart; that the best tench
er is time; that the best book is
the world, and that the best friend
is God—and all of these may be
gammed ap in the one word “Moth
er.” •••
Now,Therefore I, O. B. Colquitt
Governor of Texas, do Issue this
ray proclamation; and call upon
all the people to observe the sec*
ond Sunday in May, the same be-
ing the twelth day thereof as Moth
ers Day I respectfully recommend
that the day be duly observed by
appropriate services wherever the
people are gathered together, and
that proper and appropriate tri-
bute be paid to oar mothers, and
that every person wear on that
day the favorite flower of mother,
and if yon do not recall her favor-
ite, then that you wear a white
carnation. And if convenient and
obtainable", also wear a miniatnre
American flag on the lapel of your
coat in recognition of the great
things accomplished under onr
form of government for the nplift
ing o? womankind. At the noon
hour, that day. I farther recom
mend that all lisp the following
little prayer:
“Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray Thee, Lord, my soul to keep
If I should die before I wake,
I pray Thee, Lord, my sou! to
take.”
Given uoder my hand and the
Great Sea! of the State of Texas,
at tfee Capitol in Austin, this the
5tb day of April, A. D. 1912.
O. B. Colquitt,
Governor of Texas.
Ions: Always.
Paint Devoe; it’s the cheapest
paint in the world: never mind the
price; it may or may not be more
Less gallons will paint the house
and the paint will out wear any
thing. '
Skip wear; yon’ve got to wait
to find that ont. It covers more
yon haven’t got to wait to find
that out.
It’s the cbepest of all; no mat-
ter about tbe price.

Complaint and Explanation.
It is often a matter of comment
about bow few people goto chnrcb
in Mt. Pleasant. We belie ve that
if we had better chnrcb buildings
here, buildings that are inviting,
it would bav* a tendency to draw
more people to chnrcb. While, of
course, folks ought to go to
cbnrch no matter wbat kind of
a building they have to enter,
never the less it is trae that a
pretty edifice for worship is
mighty inviting.—Mt Pleasant
Times-Review.
It is an absolute fact that Mt.
Pleasant is behind the times in
the way of chnrcb houses; not a
modern up-to-date chnrcb edifice
in tbe town, yet there are new
buildings on almost all other lines.
People are not excnsed for not
attending chnrcb becanse the
houses of worship are a little old
and ont of date, yet in a town of
the pretentions of Mt. Pleasant
modern church buildings properly
dedicated will add a great deal to
tbe attendance on chnrcb services.
Prose Poem.
Hobble, hobble, little skirt,
you’re a dandy, you’re flirt; up
above—where you should be like
a dishrag on a spree. Hobble,
bobble, near and far, how I won
der what yon are. When I see
you “short and tight’’ yon are
surely “out of sight.” When the
blazing snn is set, you are “up”
and * blazing” yet. Then it is
you are a fright, hobble, bobble,
all tbe nigbt. Harem, scare’em
while you may, every jag mast
have it’s day; but you’ll flicker
out and die like a diamond in the
sky.—Robstown Reporter.
