Exhibit A to combine
and fuse music styles
By Joe Terrell
Daily Reporter
Exhibit A, a band that combines
pop, rock and jazz, will perform at 9
p.m. today and Saturday at the Library
Lounge, 1210 E. Hickory. Admission
is $3.
Exhibit A, founded in February
1986, comprises drummer Dan Woj-
ciechowski, Detroit, Mich., senior;
keyboardist Ted Cruz, New York,
N.Y., senior; bassist Jarrett Kinard,
Macon, Ga. alumnus; lead vocalist
and keyboardist Kevin McCourt; lead
guitarist Kevin Afflack, NT-ex; and
saxophonist Eric DeFade.
“All of us came to NT with one
goal in mind,” DeFade said. “We
knew Denton would be a good place
to put a band together. Exhibit A is
our vehicle for becoming known as
individual mucicians.”
DeFade said the band plays about
90 percent original music at its shows,
it also performs a few songs from
different groups like Steely Dan, Sting
and The Police. Each performance
features the members as solo artists,
he said, as well as a cohesive band.
"Our music has been termed a
combination of original pop-rock and
jazz. Our most successful song, ‘After
All This Time,’ has gotten a lot of
airplay on the Dallas (radio) sta-
tions,” he said.
DeFade also said that much of the
band’s popularity came from a two-
hour broadcast on radio station
KTXQ-FM in Dallas this summer.
Exhibit A recorded a 10-song audio
cassette tape titled “Gradual De-
sign" which is available at the band’s
performances and at Hasting’s Records
& Tapes in Golden Triangle Mall.

Parents' Weekend show
spotlights students' talents
DC Comics plans visit to NT campus

Daily Reporter
This year’s Parents’ Weekend Talent Show, which is
scheduled to feature a variety of talents from magic and
juggling to singing, will begin at 7:30 p.m. today in the
Rock Bottom Lounge in the University Union.
Sixteen NT students will perform in the show, which
is being sponsored by the Residence Hall Association,
said Cheryl Gierkey, president of the association.
Gierkey, who is the coordinator for the talent show,
said there are 11 singers, two dancers, a banjo solo, and
a magic and juggling act in the show. Edelweiss, the
German Dance Club, will also perform.
Gierkey, Roanoke senior, said: “The talent show was
originally organized for dorm students to show their
talents. But in the past, dorm participation has been varied
so the event is now open to all students attending NT.”
Dorm participation this year has fulfilled her predictions,
Gierkey said. “Some dorms have had few participants,
while others have had an abundance. Clark Hall had to
present a run-off talent show to meet the dorm entry set
by the RHA ”
Parents’ Weekend, which includes a barbecue, dance
and brunch, was chosen as the setting for the show in
an effort to display NT talent to the parents and visiters
present for the weekend, Gierkey said
The judges for the show are Zach Tucker, program/
activities coordinator; Bob Lawrence, residence hall
director; and Harold Bell, lntercultural Services director.
The top three winners of the contest will receive a
trophy at the end of the event, Gierky said. The talent
show winners v ill perform Saturday morning at the
parents’ brunch arid the following weekend at the Home-
coming pic tic.
Paula Shipper, graduate assistant of programming for
RHA, said, “We’ve got some different and interesting
talent.
Contestants entered in the contest are Hans Hacker,
Fred Van Cleave, Laurel Rethke, Gil Flores, Marianne
Larson, Ron Jones, Gaye LeBlanc, Zane Chumley, Jill
Reiser, Kathy Van Cleave, Brian Gonzalez, Holly Hayes,
Chris Clem, Brad Thompson and Tom Malin.

DC Comics, of Superman, Batman
and Wonder Woman fame will sponsor
a promotion at 46 college campuses
across the country in an attempt to
challenge the way students perceive the
comic books.
Representative from DC Comics will
be at NT in late October. They will
have several promotions; the times and
places of these will be announced at a
later date.
“The average comic reader is in
college or is a college graduate in his
late teens or early to mid-20s,” said
Peggy May, DC Comics marketing
communications manager. “Comics are
not just for kids anymore and haven’t
been for a long time.”
In order to inform college students
of the material now available from
comics, DC Comics will sponsor radio

and promotions will include information
on how to obtain a DC Comics gift
pack, which will include a four-color

The gift pack is designed to introduce

“Much of the material published

“We’ve come a long way from the
days of soda fountains and dating
