The Sweetwater City
Commission had their
regular session meeting
on Tuesday, August 11.
During this meeting, they
approved the request from
Todd Ranly of Lone Wolf
Resource. Ranly is working
with the Col-Tex Wildlife
Preservation Area and was
requesting permission to
harvest tree cuttings from
Lake Trammell.
According to Ranly,
they are working along the
Colorado River, trying to
stabilize the soil. The tree
cuttings are going to be
put into the banks to help
this process.
"We won't be cutting
whole trees, we will only
be harvesting limbs, and it
will be done in the winter
when they are dormant,"
Ranly said.
He said that they will
take about 500 to 1,000
cuttings.
The City Commission
also approved the request
for the name change of
Loop 170 to Avenger Field
Road. They agreed to the
name change, and passed
the rest of the process to
TxDot.
"We want this so that it
will bring more recognition
to the museum. We would
like the name change to
be for maps and all other
purposes," Bill Johnson,
of Texas National Bank,
said.
Also, the new high ser-
vice pump station con-
struction is coming up on
completion. John Voller
of EHT, Hibbs and Todd
Engineering said that
they are estimating that
the project be complete
around the end of next
month. The new station is
already online and serving
the city.
"It goes in step with the
progression of the city. It
was a need that was met
and will serve the city for a
long time to come," Voller
said.
Thecitymanager's report
included the approval of a
grant for $829.50 to the
City of Sweetwater. This
grant qualifies SNAP for a
2010 grant from the Texas
Department of Agriculture
Texans Feeding Texans
