J.P. Cowen Pre-K Registration
J.P Cowen will be holding Pre-K reg-
istration on August 11,12, and 13 from
9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Enrollees must
provide the following information: birth
certificate, social security card, shot
records, proof of income, proof of resi-
dence (utility statement), and food stamp
case number (if applicable). The child to
be registered must be four years of age
on or before September 1, 2009. Full
and half-day programs are available, but
space is limited. Bus transportation is not
provided to and from J.P. Cowen.
Wednesday, Aug. 12
SHS Volleyball
Sweetwater High School's season-
opening volleyball matches will be played
Tuesday, Aug. 11, at the middle school
gym instead of the high school gym. The
varsity will play Seminole at 6 p.m. and
Big Spring at 7:30 p.m. Matches involv-
ing the JV and freshman teams will also
be played starting at 5 p.m.
Immunization Clinic
The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health
Department will not have extenefed hours
on Wednesday, Aug. 12, normally held
the second Wednesday of the month.
Instead, it will be Wednesday, Aug. 19.
Adult Literacy
The Adult Literacy/ESL class will meet
at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at
the County-City Library. Instructors will
help individuals learn to read, improve
reading skills, improve English skills or
help to read to children, call 235-4978 for
more information.
Sweetwater Christian School
Sweetwater Christian School will begin
classes on Thursday, Aug. 13. Meet the
Teacher Night will be trom 5:30-6:30
p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12. Limited spaces
are available for three-year-old children.

SMS Student Registration
Registration for Sweetwater Middle
School students who are new to the dis-
trict will take place from 9 a.m. to noon
and 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at
the Sweetwater Middle School office.
Thursday, Aug. 13
Sweetwater Little Theatre
Sweetwater Little Theatre will present
"Godspell" Aug. 13-15 at the Municipal
Auditorium. Snow time is 8 p.m., and
tickets will be available at the door for
$5 each starting at 7:30. Groups of 10
or more on Thursday, Aug. 13, may pur-
chase tickets at half price.

Reception
Justin Corzine, District Conservationist
with the USDA-Natural Resources
Conservation Service (NRCS) has resigned
his position to follow his first love, farm-
ing. There will be a come and go visit
from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, for
Corzine at the USDA building, located at
103 West Florida in Sweetwater.
Booster Club Luncheon
The Mustang Booster Club will have
a luncheon witli the football coaches at
noon on Friday, Aug. 14. The meeting will
be held at Buck’s Restaurant on 103 SW
Georgia Ave.
Saturday, Aug. 15
Highland Baptist VBS
Highland Baptist Church, located at
503 E. Alabama, will have Vacation Bible
School beginning Saturday, Aug. 15,
from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for ages Pre-K
through fifth grade. The theme is "the
Wordless Book." There will be fun crafts
and learning God's Word.
Monday, Aug. 17
AARP
Nolan County Chapter AARP will meet
at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, at the
SNAP building. A business meeting will
be held with a musical program by The
Drifters band to follow. A covered dish
meal will be served.
SMS Eighth Grade Football
Football equipment for Sweetwater
Middle School eighth grade football ath-
letes will be issued on Monday, Aug. 17,
between 4-6 p.m. at the SMS fieldhouse.
Athletes must bring all of their complet-
ed paperwork.

Texas Flunter Education Class
A Texas Hunter Education Class will
be conducted Aug. 21-22. Friday class
is from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday class is
from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Classes will be held
at the Sweetwater Rifle and Pistol Club
building, located at 117 Loop 170 (airport
loop), West of town on Business 20. Cost
of the class is $15 and both classes must
be attended to be certified. Instructor is
Carroll Kearney. Call 235-7572 for more

Saturday, Aug. 22
Nolan VFD Barbecue
The Nolan Volunteer Fire Department
will be having its Annual Bar-B-Que
Saturday, Aug. 22, from 5-7:30 p.m., at
the Nolan Divide Community Center.
Adult plates will be $8.50 and children
ages 4-12 will be $4. All plates will be
all-you-can-eat. Also, if you have not had
a chance to pay our 2009 Dues ($24),
this would be a great opportunity to take
care of them. Pre-orders on briskets will
also be taken this year for $25.00 for a
half and $50 for a whole brisket. Orders
may be placed by calling Mark Morrow at
338-8899 or Rolan Petty at 236-6453.

Quilt Show
Midland Quilters Guild is hosting its
2009 Quilt Show, Threads of Our Past:
Celebrating 30 years on Saturday, Oct.
3, at the Midland Center (105 N. Main)
from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Adults are $5;
Seniors $3; 12 years and under free.
There will be over 250 quilts displayed,
a Quilters' Market, silent auction, quilt
appraiser, "Down Memory Lane" exhib-
it covering 30 years of MQG history,
14 vendors and a beautiful raffle quilt.
There will also be a drop off box for the
Lion's Club Eye Bank.
