Funeral Held
For Mrs. Allen
Funeral services were held at
6 p. m. Wednesday for Mrs. Emma
Allen, 79, mother of Mrs. Roy W.
Thompson, grandmother of George
M. and Richard Thompson, and
great grandmother of Roland Ross
and Carol Deane Thompson, all
of Sweetwater.
Mrs. Allen, who had made her
home with her son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Thomp-
son, for a number of years, died
at 8 a. m. Monday in the Sweet-
water hospital. She had been in
ill health for several months.
She was born at Lewisville,
Texas, March 12, 1863. She mar-
ried the late J. W. Allen of Buda
June 15, 1879. Mr. Allen died
Feb. 4, 1937. Mrs. Thompson is
the only surviving daughter.
There are two surviving sons, V.
E. Allen of Belen, N. M„ and R. E.
Allen of San Diego, Calif. Be-
sides the two grandchildren men-
tioned, there are six others, and
also nine other great grandchil-
dren.
Three brothers. Lee Lusk of
Carnegie, Okla., Frank Lusk of
Anadarco, Okla., and J. O. Lusk
of Waco, also survive.
Mrs. Allen had long been a.
member of the Presbyterian I
church. Rites were conducted by I
the Rev. M. H. Applewhite of |
San Antonio, former pastor of the
First Presbyterian church here,
assisted by the new pastor, the
Rev. Clifford W. Williams, form-
erly of Haskell.
Yates Funeral home directed
burial in the Sweetwater ceme-
tery. Pallbearers were S. I. Ed-
wards, J. C. Jenkins, I. R. Wallis,
E. J. Darley, J. C. Pinson, and
E. F. Neinast.

Mrs. Dennis, wife of a pioneer
cattleman who moved from Nolan j
county to near Rotan some 40
years ago, died late Sunday after
a long illness. Her husband is
also ill.
Survivors in addition to Mr.
Dennis include 10 children, 29
grandchildren, and 18 great-!
grandchildren.

has been visiting relatives and
friends in this community, return-
ed home Monday.
The Matt Burlesons have moved
to San Angelo.
Doc Hanna ,who is in the U. S.
air corps, is visiting his mother,
Mrs. Nettie Hanna.
Ira Hale and Wilda Turner
visited in the Cagle home Sunday.
Shorty Cagle spent Saturday j
night with Ira Hale.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Schubert and
Mrs. O. F. Schubert visited in the
Allen Morton heme in Sylvester
Sunday.
The Frank Hales and Olive I
Terry were the Sunday dinner j
guests of the Luther Williams. I
The Boy Scouts dedicated a
service flag at the church Thurs-
day night in a patriotic meeting. I
Guest speakers included Mr Pat-
terson of Rotan and Roy Form-
way of Roby.

Visits His Parents
Tech. Sgt. Hudgins, who has I
been in the U. S. army signal j
corps for a year and five months |
and has recently been stationed
at Camp Crowder, near Joplin, j
Mo., spent Tuesday with his par- j
ents. He had only a three-day '
leave—"it took one day to get)
here and another to get back."
said he.
Jimmie was stationed at Camp
Bowie, Brownwood. before being
assigned to Camp Crowder. Boys
in his company at Camp Bowie
are now in Australia.
Jimmie said army life is great
—“it really is the place for a
young man to be."
