HELP THE TELEPHONE GIRLS
Delays of as much as several hours
arc expected on many long distance
calls this Christmas as the greatest
volume in history swamps telephone
lines and switchboards, T. W. John-
son, camp telephone manager of the
Southwestern Bell Telephone Com-
pany, has announced.
The greatest flood of cabs will
come oftcr 7 p. m. on Christmas Eve
and all day Christmas Day. Johnson
said. To avoid this rush period, men
of the armed forces who are plan*
! ning to make Christmas calls are
■ urged to do so before Christmas r.ve
or after Christmas Day.
Everything possible will be dom
to handle the culls, Johnson promise
ed. Extra operators will be pressed
into service to supplement regulai
forces. Every available piece of tele-
phone equipment will be in opera-
tion. Telephone circuits will be ar-
ranged to permit handling a maxi-
mum number of calls.
“We would like nothing better
than to be able to handle all of the
Christmas -all* of men of the armed delays, but >„u mav ^
foro -peedily and wthout delaya,” telephone peoph th/, , 'UN t
