afternoon
A decorative scheme of many
colors was very successfully carried
out in tallies, favors and center
tables adornments. Multi-colored
ballons bobbed gayly among the
guests. These, with tallies in har-
linuin design, napkins of red and
| yellow, and mounds of multi-colored
j niiiis. on center-pieces of red and
| green, as center table decorations,
I created a scene of brightness and
cheerfulness in keeping with the
pretty, sunshiny afternoon and a
spirit of gayety pervaded the as-
sembly of guests.
Fifteen games of “42” were play-
ed, Mrs. R. J. Noonan winning high
score of eleven games, and Mrs.
Oscar Schuehle low score—two
games.
After the games a delectable lunch
of dives, chicken-salad sandwiches,
cheese sandwiches and hot coffee

Mr. August Kempf returned to
Hondo after a week's stay in San
Antonio with Mrs. Kempf and his
children. Mrs. Kempf left the hos-
pital and is at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. C. A. Leske.

Milton Wurzbach, son of Mr. and
Mrs. H. F Wurzbach, residing near
Cliff, was operated on for appendicitis
at the P & S. Hospital in San An
tonio Tuesday. He went through
the operation successfully and, at
last report, was progressing favor-
ably towards recovery.
SPANISH CLUB ENTERTAINS.
The “El Cireulo de los Amigo,s’*
Spanish Club, composed of tenth
and ninth grade students of Hondo
High School who made an average
of B plus in Spanish, entertained
with a “Mexican Supper” at the
South Side Cafe on Wednesday
evening.
The guests met at the home of the
president of the club, Miss Anne
Davis, and at 8:00 p. m. adjourned
to the Cafe, the dining hall of which
had been decorated in streamers of
red and green, the club colors. The
guests found their places at tables,
gay in decorations of the chosen
colors, by means of place cards de-
signed in Spanish characters—gay
Senoritas and gallant Senors—by
Origen Crow, an ex-student of H.
H. S. and an artist of no mean abili
ty. The guests were served “Mex-
ican Suppers” with plate favois of
red carnations, the club flowers, and
for several hours an atmosphere of
“Old Spain’ permeated the dining
hall where “Spanish” from the lips
of “Gringoes” held sway.
The following were present: Prof,
and Mrs. P. P. Breuster, Mr. Milton
Schweers and Misses Bess Brucks,
Irene Bradshaw, Harriet Nellis,
Evelyn Griffis, Marguerite Newton,
Leora Horger, Ethna Nester, Olga

DIED.
Little James Henry, the fourteen-
months old son of Mr. and Mrs.
James Ware of this place, died in a
hospital in San Antonio last Sunday
night. The little body was buried
in the San Marcos cemetery Monday
afternoon, January 2(>, 1925.
The child was taken to the hos-
pital from the ranch Sunday after-
noon, suffering with locked bowels.
It was operated on early Sunday
night but never rallied from the
operation dying about an hour and
a half later.
The bereaved parents and grand
mother have the sympathy of all who
know them.
