Questions, answers about garbage pickup
Questions and answers on gar-
bage and trash day--limb and
bulky items day
1. Why did we go to the MBR
Garbage Collection System?
Answer: It was getting almost
impossible to hire dependable
men to operate the old system.
The MBR System is more ec-
onomical and efficient. The maj-
ority of citizens were already
purchasing and using plastic bags
because they felt it was a better
way to contain garbage.
2. When is my Limb & Bulky
Item Pickup Day?
Answer: The Limb & Bulky
Item collection days are as fol-
lows:
West of Loop 610 & South of
Bellaire Blvd.—on Monday*
West of Loop 81fl'& North of
Bellaire Blvd.—on Tuesday*
East of Loop 610—on Thurs-

the City.
3. Do I have to call in to have
limbs and bulky items picked
up?
Answer: No. They will be
picked up once a week on your
regular Limb & Bulky Item Day.
Place loose at the curb, not in
cans or boxes.
4. How many limbs will the
city pick up and what is the
proper length?
Answer: The proper length is
not over 10 ft., and a City Ordin-
ance limits each pickup to 300
pounds per house. If the amount
of limbs are more than one-half
truck load, some of the limbs
may have to wait until the next
regular collection day. Sma ll am-
ounts of limbs can be cut in 3
ft. lengths and put in plastic bags
for Garbage & Trash Day. This

5. What is Garbage & Trash?
Answer: Anything that can be
contained in a plastic bag. This
will be picked up twice a week
on your regular collection days
for Garbage & Trash. You no
longer have to separate your
garbage and trash. Trash in-
cludes newspapers, brush, twigs,
crushed boxes, dirt, small
stones, leaves, small auto parts,
etc. You may reinforce the bag
by putting newspapers in the bot-
tom. Twigs and sticks may pun-
cture the bag, but the bag acts
as a binder and can be picked up.
6. Can I use Garbage cans?
Answer: It is no longer nece-
ssary to place cans at the curb.
Anything that can not possibly be
contained in plastic bags, should
be placed loose at the crub on
your regular Limb & Bulky Item
pickup day once a week.
7. Can I put trash in a box?
Answer: No. Must boxes will
deteriorate if left in wet weather
or on damp ground. Small boxes
should be crushed and put in
plastic bag. All large appliance
type boxes should be placed empty
at the curb. Refrigerators,
stoves, tricycles, playground eq-
uipment, furniture, etc. should
be placed loose, at the curb.
These large items will be picked
up once a week on your regular
Limb & Bulky Item Day.
8. What is the City’s policy
on remodeling debris?
Answer: The City does not
pick up remodeling material,
contractor’s debris, or old roof-
ing. This should be included in
your cost of remodeling.
9. What about dogs and cats
breaking into plastic bags?
Answer: Putting garbage out
on themorning of your pickup
day, rather than the night before,
will generally help this problem.
Some other helpful suggestins
are: Wrap bones meat, fish,
etc. in newspaper before placing
in plastic bags. If dogs are still
inclined to break in, use a couple
of ounces of ammonia on some
paper, place in bag and tie tightly,
just before placing at curbside.
If this is a recurring problem
call the Humane Officer at 668-
0487.
10. Questions on plastic bags?
Answer: The city will deliver
free bags every 16 weeks. The
three bags a week furnished,
was based on the amount of gar-
bage and trash generated by the
average U.S, family. The bags
meet the National Sanitary
Foundation Specifications of 11/2
mil. thickness. You may use any
bag that meets this standard
and size. Extra bags can be
purchased at the Fire Station or
