Activities Quiet at Lee High
PLANNING FOR HOUSE TOUR - standing in front of leaded glass
window, Mrs. E.J. Hoffer (right) and Narene Kee, members of the
Houston Assn, of Legal Secretaries, plan for the Association’s
annual House tour slated Sunday, Nov. 2 in Mrs. Hoffer’s home,
5326 Braesheather. The annual tour will be held from 3 to 5 p.m.
“Things are rather quiet here
at Lee High School,’’ says Prin-
cipal J.T. Shivers.
However, the students are
caught up in a whirl of activity,
including money raisingprojects,
football games, and different
kings of competition.
Lee’s Lieutenants, the girls’
drill squad, sells homemade
cookies once a month through-
out the school year. They are
helped by the Lieutenant Booster
Club. Proceeds of the cookie
sales are used to purchase new
equipment. Last year the girls
received travel bags for the road
trips they made.
Five star General Paula La-
bouef leads the 60 member squad.
Officers under her are Maira
Apostilos, four star; Teri Cline,
three star; Barbara Dowling,
two star; Mildred Anderson, one
star; Cindy Bartlett, one star.
The Lieutenants perform dur-
ing the Generals football games
and attend the basketball games.
They are a colorful sight on the
field with their pompoms, tam-
bourines and hula hoops for the
various routines.
Publishing the school direc-
tory each year is also a respon-
sibility of the squad.
Two active organizations at
Lee are the National Honor So-
ciety and Mu Alpha Theta, the
Math Club. These groups have
teamed up to sponsor a study hall
in the library annex. The NHS
has sponsored the study hall in
the past, and Mu Alpha Theta is
joining them for the first time.
The study hall began Oct. 16
and will be held each Thursday
morning in the library annex be-
ginning at 7:30 p.m. It is open
to all students.
Members of the NHS and Mu
Alpha Theta will help anyone who

Supporting a winning football
team is an important activity
at any school, and Lee High is
no exception. The Booster Club
sells ribbons and makes posters
for each of the games. The 60
member Spirit Committee makes
name tags for the football play-
ers and bakes cupcakes.
Heading the spirit activities at
Lee are eight senior cheerlead-
ers. They are Peter Jones, Gary
Snowder, David Campbell, Dale
Hortenstine, Lisa Langham,
Sherri Vance, Charlotte Willis
and Gay Hooper.
Students in the journalism
classes are preparing for the
33rd annual school press pro-
ject. Sponsored by the San Ja-
cinto Tuberculosis and Respir-
atory Disease Assn., the project
is designed to make students
aware of the problems of air
pollution, smoking, and dis-
eases.
The students must have pub-
lished news stories, feature stor-
ies, interviews, surveys, edi-
torials, or cartoons that pertain
to the subject. The printed ma-
terial must be submitted by Jan.
15, 1970, and will be judged with
