A search was made for the
most outstanding Cub Scout
in the U. S.A., who would be
named “National Youth
Representative” of Cub
Scouting. (The Cub was to
be outstanding, no only in
Cub Scouting, but also in
many other facets: church,
schoo, community-wide
service, active in sports and
other activities, etc.)
Eventually, one Cub Scout
was selected for this single
high honor.

Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence G.
BELLAIRE RESIDENTS WHO LOOK OUT their front
doors this week may see Liz Rethwisch, and Loren
Hopkins, right, approaching with boxes of Camp Fire
Candy. These Bellaire Camp Fire girls are participating
in Camp Fire’s annual candy sale, which supports
overnight camps and resident camps which provide
low-cost camping facilities for girls from First grade
through high school. Liz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. O.
Rethwisch, 53011 Huisache, and Loren, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. H. R. Hopkins, 5121 Fine, are sixth-grade
students at Condit school. .

was selected as “National
Youth Representative” of
Cub Scouting. To be
selected, he went through
many competitions. Scott
was.nominated by Pack 425.
He then com Doted in teh
Sam Houston Area Council
competition There he was
selected a linalist, was
interviewed and won that
competition He was then
advanced o Area competi-
tion, which he won. Then,
he advanced to the South
Central Region competition.
He became a finalist there,
was interviewed by a Scout
official from New Mexico,
and won the South Central
Region competition. (There
are 6 regions of Boys Scouts
of America: (1) Western (2)
North Central (3( South
Central (4) Northeast (5)
East Central (6) Southeast.
Each region selected one
boy to be its nominee for
"National Youth Represent-
ative.”) After winning for
the South Central Region,
Scott advanced to the finals
of the national competition.
On October 17, 1974, he was
selected to be the "National
Youth Representative” of
Cub Scouting. As the
national winner, he has won
a trip to the National
Headwuarters, Boy Scouts
of America, in North
Brunswick, New Jersey, and
a trip to Washington, D.C.
