Lee Key Club Honors Leaders
The Key Club of Lee High
School will hold its annual Lead-
ership Banquet at the Briar Club,
3637 Westheimer, on Tuesay,
March 10, at 7 p.m.
The banquet, which honors
leaders from all of the organiza-
tions at Lee, is expected to draw
an attendance of over 200 per-
sons, and will kick-off the Spring
season of school functions.
Over 50 student organizations
will be represented.
Principal speaker for the
Leadership Banquet will be Bob
Talamini, former football star of
the Houston Oilers and the New
York Jets, who will speak to the
banquet’s theme, “Leadership.”
Talam ni retired from profes-
sional ball last year and is now
associated with the Houston brok-
erage firm of Dominic and Dom-
inic.
The 36 members of the Lee
Key Club are selected from a-
mong the academic elite of the
school and represent the soph-
omore, junior and senior grades.
The Leadership Banquet is the
first of many programs planned
by this honor group for 1970.
The Key Club raises money
through their projects for a num-
ber of worthy causes, among
which are their donations of con-
tact lenses and hearing aids to
underpriviledged young people.
The Lee Key Club is the high
school function of the Southwest-
ern Kiwanis Club and was founded
for community and school ser-
vice.
"We are very lucky,” says
Key Club sponsor Richard E.
Norris, “to be affiliated with the
Southwestern Kiwanis Club. Many
Key Clubs are not as actively
supported as we are at Lee.”
Two of the projects slated for
Key Club members this year,
said Norris, will be the South-
western Kiwanis Pancake Sup-
per on March 14, which will in-
clude Key Clubbers as partici-
pants. Boys from Boy’s Harbor
and children from area orphan-
ages will be invited to the sup-
per. Funds raised will be used for
club projects.
The second project he describ-
ed was the Key club’s assistance
to Anchor Club in presenting
Career Days at the school.
The club gave a Christmas
party last year for the Rusk
Settlement Community Center s
Latin American children, hav-
ing rasied $240 through their pro-
jects to give presents and re-
freshments to the children.

for the 1969-70 Key Club are:

a kidney machine once each week
in order to go on living. Use
of the expensive equipment costs
his family $600 per week.
Mrs. Evelyn Vecera, organ-
izational leader for the Bellaire
4-H Club, first heard of the boy
through her former church, First
Baptist Church of Brookshire,
and has enlisted the help of the
4-H youth in a project to aid the
boy.
The General Mills Company
has agreed to give the boy a kid-
ney machine of his own, to be
used in the home, if Mrs. Ve-
cera’s group and the church
members can collect 60,000Bet-
