Convention will open with an In-
ternational Fiesta with dinner
and Floral style show followed
by many workshops and programs
on Horticulture and Floral Ar-
rangement 1 e c tu r e-demonstra-
tions.
Mrs. Malcolm A. Jones, pres-
ident, will represent the Houston
Federation of Garden Clubs and
participate in a workshop on
Scented Gardens. Mrs. Henry
Blum Jr. as State Arbor Day
chairman will work on panels to
help make Texas more beautiful.
Mrs. E.O. Barton, past presi-
dent of the Texas Garden Clubs
Inc, is one of the headquarter
trustees. Mrs. G.G.Orr will ser-
ve on the budget and finance com-
mittee and Mrs. JP. Cain on club
programs. Mrs. R.A. Salathie!
will announce the honor roll win-
ners. Mrs. C.J. Montgomery will
be in charge of the Flower Shows
with Mrs. L.G. Clinton in charge
of the Flow Show schedules. Oth-
er attending and serving in var-
ious capacities are Mrs. E.H.
Blamkenship, visiting commit-
tee; Mrs. David Hallam, insigna
charms; Mrs. W.T. Danes, or-
ganic gardening; Mrs. C.J. Col-
lier Jr., youth communication ac-
tivities; Mrs. B.E. Evans, cacti
and other succulents. Many local
garden club presidents will also
attend.
HOUSTON COUNCILOF
TEXAS GARDEN CLUBS
The Houston Council of Texas
Garden Club will hold its month-
ly meeting at the Garden Center,
1500 Hermann Dr., on Thursday,
Oct. 19 at 9:30 a.m. Guest speak-
er will be Dan Ogea, manager of
the Houston Garden Center. Ogea
holds a BS degree in Horticul-
ture from McNeese State Univer-
sity and minored in Agronomy.
He was employed as a horticul-
ture in the Beaumont-Port Ar-
thur area for several years be-
fore coming to Houston, being
first employed here as supervi-
sor of the Memorial Park Green-
house. His subject for this meet-
ing will be "Application of Small
Space Landscaping.”
Artistic Arrangements for the
day will be provided by Mrs. Lee
Leider, Mrs. Henry Blum, Mrs.
W.A. English, Mrs. E.O. Janitz
and Mrs. B.C. Tharp. Hostess
clubs will be: Dogwood Trail, El
Campo, Flair with Flowers,
Floradora and Greenwillow, and
all clubs areaskedtobringplants
for the plant sale.

The Bellaire Bulldogs came
from behind Saturday at Bellaire
Field to tie the Baby Oilers 6-6
In a Jr. Teenage Football game.
The Oilers scored in the first
period on a three yard plunge.
After a scoreless second quar-
ter by both teams, Oscar Monta-
lvo intercepted a BabyOilerpass
and went 60 yards for the Bulldogs
SCORE. The extra point was miss
ed and the score remained dead-
locked.
Coach Fore and Coach Clibum
said it was impossible to single
out any one player because an
outstanding ame was played by
the entire Bulldog team. In hold-
ing the Baby Oilers to very lit-
tle yardage onthegroundandonly
two completed passes. The Bull-
dogs ended the game on the Oil-
er's 2nd yard line.
The Bulldogs are now 3 wins,
1 loss and 1 tie for the season.
Packers
pack
Browns
Tuesday night the Packers de-
feated the Browns 12-0. Paul Gar-
cia scored both touchdowns on 35
yard pass plays. Paul ended the
game with 91 of the teams 139
yards. Dan Ackkerman had ano-
ther 35. For the Browns Clay
Turner ran for 33 yards and
Scott Stover for 32, accounting
for the team’s 65 yards. The
Browns had three first downs
versus the Packer’s five.
Thursday the Bengals outlasted
the 49’ers for a 12-6 victory.
The Bengals struck first on a 13
yard run by Johnny Caldwell. The
49’ers scored next on a 20 yard
pass and run to Chris Autry. Late
in the third quarter, Robert Bar-
ras scored to seal the fate of the
game in favor of the Bengals.
The Bengals rolled up 136 yards
and seven first downs; the 49’ers
107 yards, eight first downs.
The Oilers trounced the Raid-
ers 27-0. The games’ leading
gainer was Radier, Daniel Mur-
phy with 60 yards. For the Oil-
ers Les Clonch scored 12 points,
Wes Hogue and Carlton Sheppard
six points apiece; Matt Brown
two points and Jose Jimenez one.
The Oilers were ahead 13-0atthe
end of the first four mintues, but
(hen the Raider defense strength-
ened, allowing only seven points
in the second quarter, and seven
in the fourth. They allowed (he
Oilers only 31 yards the second
half. The Oilers rolled up 131
yards and seven first downs;
the Raiders 25 yards and four
first downs.
The standings after one half
of the season are: Oilers 5-0,
Bengals 4-1, 49’ers 3-2, Rick-
ers 1-3-1, Raiders 1-3-1, Browns
0-5.
