Mr. Collins
Services Held
Herbert Collins, 55, of 4308
Lone, died Wednesday, Oct. 1.
He was an engineer for Hous-
ton Natural Gas Company, a
member of M.E.B.A. and Chief
Operating Engineers.
Survivors include his wife,
Pauline of Houston; sons, Wil-
liam Collins, Richard J. Collins
of New York and William A. Sowda
of Sowda of Santa Maria, Calif.;
and three grandchildren.
Services were held at 10:30
a.m. Friday at Earthmans Bel-
laire Chapel.
Interment was in Weimer Ma-
sonic Cemetary with graveside
services at 2 p.m. Friday.
Mrs. Newsom
Dies Sept. 26
Mrs. Marie Hayes Newson,62,
of 7575 Bellaire Blvd. died Fri-
day, Sept. 26.
A native of Palestine, she was
a member of Parker Memorial
Methodist Church and Daughters
of the Nile.
She is survived by her hus-
band, Hyman Newson, one daugh-
ter, Mrs. June Newsom Reed;
one son, John Charles, both of
Houston; sisters, Mrs. Virigina
Hayes of San Antonio; Mrs. Lu-
cile Lehman of Houston; brother
Charles Hayes of San Antonio;
and five grandchildren.
Services were held Monday
with the Rev. Vernon Cornelius
officiating.
Bellaire Pilot Club
To Meet Monday
The Pilot Club of Bellaire will
have its regular board and busi-
ness meeting Monday, Oct. 13,
at the office of the Bellaire
Chamber of Commerce.
The Board meeting will be at
7:30 p.m. and the business meet-
ing will be at 8 p.m,

honoring officers, workers and media. The show, to be held at Pin
Oak Stabes Oct. 17,18 and 19, is sponsored by the Memorial Chapter
of Delta Gamma Sorority for the benefit of the Society for the
Prevention of Blindness. Mr. and Mrs. Bunde are selling tickets
for the event. Mrs. Nahas is chairman of the Prevention of Blind-
ness group. The party took place in the Anchor/Sponsors Club at
Pin Oak Stables.
Alley Schedules Workshop;
Theatre School For Adults
Alley Theatre, which has the
nation’s largest theatre school
for young people, will offer its
popular workshop classes for
adults at the old Alley Theatre
beginning Nov. 10.
There will be 10 class ses-
sions over a five-week period,
with classes meeting Mondayand
Wednesday.
The morning classes from 10
a.m. to 12 noon will be taught
by Ellenore Flynn. The evening
classes 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. will
be taught by Kate Pogue. Stu-
dents may choose either the
morning or evening classes.
Major class time is devoted
to the understanding of today’s
theatre with emphasis placed on
the development of basic drama-
tic skills: diction, body control,
imagination, concentration, ob-
servation and self-confidence.
Tuition for the five week, 20
hour class is $30. For informa-
tion and registration contact Mrs.
Bettye Gardner or Mrs. Ellenore
Flynn at the old Alley Theatre,
526-2261.
Karen Pettigrew
Injured Thursday
Word has been received that
Karen Pettigrew, 21 year old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Pettigrew, 5204 Holly, received
head injuries Thursday afternoon,
Sept. 25, when she lost control of
her car and it overturned near
Leander, north of Austin.
Miss Pettigrew is in the inten-
sive care unit at Brackenridge
Hospital in Austin. She is re-
portedly suffering from a broken
jaw, a skull fracture and facial
lacerations.
A senior at Texas Tech Univer-
sity, Miss Pettigrew and her two
passengers were enroute to Austin
when the accident occurred. The
Volkswagen in which they were
riding was demolished.
The two passengers were treated
for minor injuries and released.
Miss Pettigrew is an active
member of Bellaire Christian
Church. She is a graduate of Bel-
laire High and was active in Girl
Scouts. __
