Installation Held
By Jaycees in Fritch
Saturday Night
A joint Junior Chamber of
Commerce Installation banquet
was held last Saturday night in
the Fritch High School cafeteria
in Fritch at 7:30 p.m.
Outgoing and incoming officers
were installed from Borger, Phil-
lips, Fritch and White Deer.
Guest speaker for the banquet
was “Spike” Crane.
The White Deer Jaycees in-
stalled for this year are Don
Vance, president; Don Davis,
first vice-president; Emmitt Wat-
kins, second vice-president; Ber-
nard Shield, secretary-treasurer;
Bill Abbott, director; and Doug-
las Coffee, director of In-
ter-Club Relations,
Bernard Shield, outgoing pres-
ident of the White Deer Jaycees,
received the outstanding Jaycee
award for the chapter here. He
was also presented a past presi-
dent pin. A vote was taken by
secret ballot to select the most
active Jaycee in this chapter.
Among a number of outstand-
ing accomplishments Bernard
contributed was the writing and
presentation of the proclamation
presented to and adopted at the
Tri-Regional Convention in Pam-
pa on Jan. 27th and 28th.

from White Deer who attended
the banquet were Mr. and Mrs.
Ernest Russell, Mr. and Mrs. Don
Vance, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard
Shield, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Abbott,
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Coffee,
Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Waltz, Mr.
and Mrs. Don Davis, Loyd Short
and Joe Wheeley.

Meet Set Friday
The Woman’s Society of Chris-
tian Service of the First Meth-
odist Church District Meet will
be held Friday, April 13th at the
Polk Street Methodist Church in
Amarillo.
Mrs. Irene Nix Elder will be
the guest speaker at the meeting.
Mr. and Mrs. Elder are mission-
aries to Japan and are on leave
to the States at the present time.
The Sub-District to which White
Deer belongs is named the Irene
Nix Elder Sub District.
Sessions begin at 9:30 a.m. and
luncheon will be served at noon.
During the afternoon president
reports will be given.
All the women are urged to at-
tend and hear this inspiring miss-
ionary.
"Hoe and Hope"
Garden Club Still
Open for Members
Charter membership of the
“Hoe and Hope” Garden Club
will be closed on May 16, at the
regular monthly meeting. All
those interested in becoming
charter members of the club are
reminded to attend the April 18
meeting. At the present time, 20
members have been entered on
the charter roll.
The first major project of the
garden club, Beautification of
Library Grounds, is well under
way. Mavis Cavett and Jean
Burch, co-chairmen of this pro-
ject, have already completed a
great amount of planning with
the assistance of General Project
Chairman, Marie Eastham. A
progress report will be presented
at the next regular meeting.
A picture of the “Hoe and
Hope” Garden Club will be made
April 17. Present members, and
those wishing to become charter
members, are urged to be pres-
ent on this date.
“Hoe and Hope” Garden Club
would like to remind all citizens
of the scourge of dandelions now
appearing everywhere. All citi-
zens are urged to cooperate in
destroying this menace to beau-
tiful lawns.

Mrs. W. Baten and family last
weekend were Mr. and Mrs. J.
E. Crawford and children, Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Webb and family
of Borger, Mr. and Mrs. M. A.
Dalrymple of Lefors, Mr. and
Mrs. Raymond Baten of Pampa,
Mrs. J. F. Webb of Borger, Mrs.
Baten’s father, R. L. Wells of
Houston. Mr. Wells has been
spending the past three weeks
with Mr. - and Mrs. Baten.

IN SKELLYTOWN CHURCH
Mrs. S. C. Woods presented her
music students in a spring recit-
al at the First Baptist Church in
Skellytown Sunday afternoon at
2:30 p.m.
