Durirg the summer W. M. Bennett
gave an eastern fruit tree agent an
ordeT telling him to furnish sa many
as needed to plant in the ri ar of bis
residence. The News says the agent
filled the bill to the letter and his
garden resembled a pea patch, the
trees were so thick_The News
called attention to two remarkable
trees in the southern portion of the
City. They stood wttbin about two
feet of each other, close to the side-
walk, almost five feet from the
ground a branch about the size of a
man’s arm extended from ore free
nearly horizontally to the other
where it becapae part of the second
tree. It was a remarkable natural
freak, and should have been pro-
tected, but no c|re was taken to pro-
tect the trees and they disappeared

man Democrat says: “The man with
the gun and dog may not be conversant
with the lass* enacted by the last legisla-

er* of land were protected from pot hunt-
er* or trespassers by posting their placet,
giving warning by a sign on the fencing.
The new law does not require the sign to
be put up, hot to hunt on any Inclosure
is an offense, punishable by fine, even
during the open season. Hunters must
confine thefr sport to nnfenced ground*
unlees obtaining permission from the
owners ot enclosures, or trouble may
result from trespassing. Another (bit ot;
information may not be amiss In this
connection, and It Is that the birds belong
to the state, and no man hat a right to
kill onp of them out ot the hunting sea-
son, even on Hi* own enclosure.
-Miss Jenntt Bane who went with a pic-
nic party to Smith creek Sunday, declared
that she would go out to the end of a
limb after a fishing line which had got
tangled in the branches. The limb broke
and Miss Bane went down into a water
hole over her head. She was drenched to
the skin, but she took the Incident good
aaturedly. -»
Paradise Heights show the least im-
provements of -any suburban point. No
new buildings have been erected In
year*. Everything at the dear old place
seems to wear an air of dejection.
Rev. Bishop of the Presbyterian church
who has been absent all the summer for
the benefit of hit health has returned and
occupied the pulpit at the XX l Club
building Sunday.
At a special meeting of the council
Monday morning, It was decided to suns-
tain the board ot health and maintain the
quarantine against Sherman. -
J. E. Salman who resides in the Wade,

The suggestion that Judge Peck suc-
ceed Standifer in the legislature teems to
meet with unanimous approval. We don’t
know however that the judge wants it.
W. S. Kelso, who has been manager ot
the Katy hotel St the union depot in Den-
ison has been transfered to South Mc-
Alester. Manager Oglesby ot the Deni-
son Hiss taken charge.

many years. Water froxe last night.
What little cotton it left in the field is
obliterated.
A number of duck-shooters have gone
to Grastr lake. They have been reading

The Pastors’ association hat decided
that the Thanksgiving service be held at
the Waple* Memorial church. Rev. F.
E. Leech, pastor ot the Cumberland
Presbyterian church, has been chosen to
deliver the sermon. Special music will
be prepared for the occasion:
