From The Philadelphia Inquirer.
A >oung man with a decidedly seed
appearance entered the superintendent’*
office, and, placing* his hand familiarly
upon the superintendent’* shoulder, ac
costed him thus:
“Boss, can y--u gimme a Job?”
“W'hst department?”
“Either breskin’ or filin’.”
“Do you know the book of rules?”
“Some.”
“Well, let me see bow well you

would get killed and you would take bia

Good day."
The next applicant to enter seated him
self back of ti.s superintendent and waited
tor him to break the silence, which he
did shortly.
“Well, air, what can I do for you?”
“I would like to have a job, boas.”
‘•In what department?"
“Train service."
“Are you familiar with the book of
rules?"
“A little.”
The superintendent then asked him the
same question as the first.
The fellow scratched hia head, then
looking the superintendent square in the
eye he r> plied:
“Boss, If the orders looked good, and
were positive, I would stay nn that aide-

When a woman enter* tne marriage
relation her sphere of influence it at
once estended, and her horiaon is no
longer bounded by the people and cir-
cumstances ot the moment. She is but d-
ing for posteritt. In the joy and
thoughttulner* which characterise her
mind in the new relation there ta a proph-
ecy of unborn generations. Her life is
to color other lives; her aspirations are
to fix, to a great extent, the position and
future ot husband and family. If she Is
cultured, pure and refined, theae quali-
ties will characterise the home which
she create*. The higher the degree ot
her culture, her purity, her refinement,
the more will these qualities characterise
the home of which the is the center.
The Self that a woman takes with her in
her marriage is her real dower. If her
dower can be reckuned in numeral* only,
no matter how many thvy may be,
wrecked, indeed, wll he her husband,
imuoverished her children But if she
posfesses industry, gentleness, self-abne-
gation, purity and intelligence, com-
bined wiih capability, she is in herself a
treasure of treasures.—Insurance Coun-
