The action of a Mrs. Ingalls in
objecting to a St. Louis charitable
organization receiving a cash con-
tribution from Adolphus Busch,
simply because he is the proprietor
of a brewery, is a species of fanati-
cism that shouid be decried. Doubt-
less the lady is a Christian and im-
agines, wrongfully, of course, that
a brewer’s money is not as good nor
as valuable as if it were earned at
Some more righteous calling. Con-
sidering the destitute condition of
the poor of St. Louis and the urgent
need of funds with which to provide
lor them, the objection, to say the
least, was silly and very whimsical.

twenty years ago last Friday. His
theme was “The Problem of Life.”
The News was highly complimen-

lecture and its presentation. The
lecturer, however, became angered
because a string band thoughtlessly
started up a tune in the saloon be-
low, and although the musicians
desisted as soon as their attention
was called to the lecture, he alluded
to it in a"coarse and spiteful man-
