For fear of over-taxing your pa-
tience I will leave the rest for Mrs.
Dnrland to tell.
I must not tail to mention the kind
and courteous bosoitable people
who entertained us. We were ten-
dered many beautiful receptions,
luncheons and pleasant social func-
tions, lovely evenings. They gave
ua a steamboat ride down the Miss-
issippi river and stopped at the old
historic Chalmette battle grounds,
had all kind* of good things to eat,
spread ne»r the old Jackson monu-
ment regular picnic style. Went
further down the river and stopped
at an old sugar plantation; a grand
reception m the palm garden of the
St. Charles hotel. It was a grand
and beautiful aight the garden pre-
- ented. A committee of gentlemen
terved dainty refreshments. The
parlors and beautiful garden were
crowded to their utmost capacity.
Ladies were gowned in most ex-
quisite costumes. It would be hard
to say which place the kind and gen-
erous people of New Orleans bad
marked out for us to visit was the
most interesting, or which social
function was enjoyed the moat. The
theme waa enticing, the people were
inspiring and the occasion was an
exceptional one. It » doubtful if
ever again they wilt hold at one
time so much of beauty and culture,
the heart and aoul ot the grand old
south. The bluest bigod of the
south strll lives and reigna supreme
