Organizational Meeting
Local citizens opposing the Droposed
Tenaska Trailblazer coal plant win hold an
organizational meeting, open to the public,
at the Tara on the Square building, 119 East
3rd Street (2nd Floor) at 2:30 p.m. on
Sunday, Jan. 11.
Monday, Jan. 12
Free Computer Class
The County-City Library is offering a free
computer class from 9-11 a.m. Monday,
Jan. 12. Mark Rawlings, library volunteer,
will be giving basic instruction in a one-les-
son class limited to six participants. Sign up
begins Monday, Jan. 5. This class will be on
a first come, first serve basis for the first six
that sign up. For more information, call the
library at 235-4978.
East Ridge PTO
East Ridge Elementary will have a PTO
meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12,
2009. in the school s cafeteria. Everyone is
invited to come. There will be many oppor-
tunities to join and volunteer. Preparation
for the TAKS test and pickles and popcorn
will be discussed.
American Legion
Sweetwater American Legion Post #109
and Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. Monday,
Jan. 12. at the Jaycees building, located at
1001 Crane Street. All members and veter-
ans interested in becoming members are
encouraged to attend. For more informa-

SIS PTO Meeting
Sweetwater Intermediate School will have
a PTO meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan.
12, at the school cafeteria. The PTO meet-
ings will continue every second Monday of
the month at 5:30 p.m. throughout the
school year.

Sweetwater Jaycees
The Sweetwater Jaycees meetings for this
week have been cancelled and rescheduled.
The board meeting will be held Tuesday,
.Jan. 20, and the general member meeting
will be held Thursday, Jan. 22.
Masons
The Sweetwater Masonic Lodge #571 will
have a stated meeting Tuesday, Jan. 15. The
dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the meet-
ing will be at 6:30 p.m. All EA, FC and
Master Mason members are urged to
attend. Area visitors are welcome.

Adult Literacy/ESL
The adult literacy/ESL class will meet at
10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at the

Story Hour
Story Hour will be held at 10:45 a.m.

Library for parents and their children ages

Kool Smiles
Jose Lopez with Kool Smiles of Abilene
will be at the Sweetwater-Nolan County
Health Department (SNCHD), located at
301 E. 12th, on Thursday, Jan. 15 from 8
a.m. to noon to provide information about
the services offered, answer questions and
schedule appointments.
Friday, Jan. 16
RHS Games Rescheduled
The Roscoe Plowgirl and Plowboy basket-
ball games for Friday, Jan. 16, have been
rescheduled for Thursday, Jan. 15. The var-
sity boys will play at 4:30 p.m. in Baird and
the varsity girls will play at 6 p.m. in Baird.
There will be no junior varsity games.
Saturday, Jan. 17
Basketball Tournament
There will be a basketball tournament
with sign-up beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday,
Jan. 17, at the Sweetwater High School
upstairs gym. The tournament will benefit
the TAG youth ministry at Word of God
Church. Call 236-9031 to enter and for
more information.
Monday, Jan. 19
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Banquet
The third annual Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr. banquet is slated for Monday, Jan. 19,
2009. Tne banquet will be held from 6-8
p.m. at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex,
located at 1699 Cypress Street. The agenda
will provide a variety of entertainment and
keynote speaker Dr. Aubrey Todd, a West
Texas native. Tickets are now on sale for
individuals, groups and organizations by
calling 933-0076. Anyone wishing to volun-
teer their time, talents or services may also
call 933-0076. Tickets will be $10 for adults
ages 19 and older; $5 for youth, ages 18 and
under; and $4 for senior citizens.
Saturday, Jan. 24
Gun Show
A gun show' will be held from 9 a.m. to 5
p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, and from 9 a.m. to
4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, at the Nolan County
Coliseum. There will be a large selection of
new and used rifles, shotguns and hand-
guns.

Parks Being Winterized
As of Dec. 1, 2008, the City of
Sweetwater Public Works Department will
be winterizing all parks, Sweetwater
Cemetery and Lake Sweetwater camp-
ground by turning off the water to these
facilities for the remainder of the cold
season. For information concerning the
use of park facilities, contact the
Sweetwater City Service Center at 235-
1297 or 235-5003.
Flu Shots
The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health
Department will continue to administer
the flu vaccine on Wednesday from 8:30-
11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. until the vac-
cine is gone. Prices are as follows: Adult
Flu- $20, Pneumonia- $40. If you have
Medicare, please bring card with you
along with any supplemental insurance
plans. If you have questions, call the
Health Department at 235-5463.
Coats For Kids
Bahlman Cleaners, 910 E. Third Street,
is accepting donations of used coats of all
children’s sizes. Bahlman’s will clean the
coats and distribute them to local coat
closets for local children.
