Still under two
dollars
Subscription rates among all publications
have gone up. Some have been doubled and
more. It now costs you around SIS average a
year to get a representative Texas daily news-
paper.
In the weekly field, long before present
news print prices, many publications charged
two dollars. Certainly that was not too high
but even* publication has a different problem,
a different policy.
The Herald has through the years main-
tained a consistently low subscription rate. It
is still under two dollars in Milam county. We
do not know when we can reduce. With good
newsprint around $200 a ton laid down, we
simply cannot sell The Herald for less than
$1.75.
It is not the subscription price that makes
the paper. It is what is printed on the paper
you get, how it is printed and the newspaper
way of presenting it, that makes papers stand
out
These are some of the reasons why The
Herald has carried or its lists subscribers with
a half a century and more of reader interest
Year in and year out they renew, hundreds and
hundreds of them.
When good newspapers can be sold for
less The Herald will sell them.
