INTO ENVOY WREST
WASHINGTON, Nov. 21 — The
United States today asked 30 nations
—including Soviet Russia—to join in
bringing pressure on the Chinese
Communists to free American Cor>
sul General Angus Ward und his staff
from a Mukden jail.
An unprecedented personal ap-
peal for urgent concerted action was
sent out by Secretary of State Aehe-
sor.' over the week end to the Foreign
Minister of every country with re-
presenatives in China.
The new step, announced by the
State Department, was taken amid
a mounting outcry for the use of
force if necessary to free the consu-
lar officials, who were jailed four
weeks ago on charges which the
United States has denounced as
"trumphed up.”
Officials said Achoson’s personal
appeal was without diplomatic pre-
cedent. It went out Friday night, u
few hours after President Truman
called the treament of Ward und out-
rage.
Achesor.’s move posed a direct test
of the attitude of Soviet Russia and
of four other Soviet bloc countries to
which his message was dispatched.
Some diplomatic officials voiced the
suspicion privately that Russia as
the principle backer of the new
Chinese Red regime may have in-
stigated the Ward incident us u blow
to American prestige.

When the Rosebud Panthers take
to Woodson field Wednesday night
against the Lampasus Badgers it will
l»e the first time in the history of
the school that a boothull team has
gone past the district finals.
Rosebud has played in the finals
for the district championship a num-
ber of years, but when they chipped
the Cameron Yoemen last wwk for
the title it was the Panthers* * first.
Rosebud had to fight for the crown
after Cameron forced the district into
a playoff game by whipping them,
7-0, in the Inst scheduled tilt.
Rut the way the Panthers bounced
back here in Temple Thursday night
when they won the championship left
fans wondering just how Cameron
turned the trick the first time.
Coach Glenn Lowe stated it was
just one mistake on the part of the
Panthers and in the second meeting
the Panthers were mad and didn’t
make the mistake twice.
The Panthers stayed on the ground
to push the Yoemen all over the field
with all of the Rosebud backs alter-
nating carrying the ball and picked
up yardage on most of the plays.
Now they have to forget about
Cameron and worry about Sam Fow-
lor’s Badgers.
Lampasas will have a slight edge
on the Panthers going into the game.
It won’s be on past records but the
fact that Lampasas has had an extra
week to get ready as they finished
their season on Nov. 11 while Rose-
bud had to meet Cameron last week.
The Badgers are reported to he in
good shape for the game and Rose-
bud has a couple of men limping
with leg injuries.
Lampasas’ last game was played
in the afternoon and the first and
second Roscbtid-Cameron game was
well scouted by the Badgers.
On past records the Badgers have
lost two games this season.
They dropped ar.' early game to
Killeen, 24-21, and tied San Saba,
0-0, but the Armadillos got the nod
on first downs after the penetra-
tions were even in the tilt.
Lampasas’ forward wall has allow-
ed only six points in district play
and that was to Marble Falls after
the Badgers had built up 20-0 lead
and was using a reserve line.
Tickets for the Lampasas-Rosebud
game will go on sale in Temple at
noon today at the Wildcat News
stand and the North side drug store.
Reserve section seats are $1.20, gen-
eral admission will be $1, and student
tickets will go on sale at the schools
for 30 cents. No student tickets will
be sold at any place but the schools.
