Win Honors Saturday
In Literary Events
Buckholts students participating
in the Inter-scholastic Literary
Meet took a fair share of places
in the literary events held at Bren-
bam Saturday.
In elementary grades, 2nd place
went to Shirley Kudlacek in De-
clamation; Dwight Fuchs placed
1st in number sense and Judy
Wall placed 2nd. Marguerite Bur-
tis, Louis DeWald, Jr., and Elsie
Marek as a team placed 4th in
Picture Memory. In Story telling,
Larry Shenkir took 4th place.
High school student winners were
LaVeUe Fischer, placing 2nd in
Ready Writers and Ruth Ann Whit-
tington, 4th place: As a team La-
Velle Fischer and Ruth Ann Whit-
tington received 3rd place in
Spelling; Carroll Wayne Glaser
placed 3rd in Poetry Reading and
Barton Fuchs and Ann Whit-
tington took 4th place as a Typing
team-

Vaculin Service Station rolled
1625 for high team series in Ca-
meron Women's Bowling League
this week. Pearl was second with
1584 and McDonald Plumbing Shop
third with 1544.
Vaculin also took high team sin-
gle game, 598. McDonald Plumb-
ing Shop, 563 and Pearl, 554.
High individual series went to
Muriel Masopust, 475, Jody Per-
nice, 451, and Milady Hollas, 450.
High individual single games
were rolled by Muriel Masopust
195, Jody Pernice, 188, and Clara
Humplik 169.

Mrs. Annie Hollas, league sec-
retary, announced that the wom-
ens league would not bowl next
week. She added that final mat-
ches will be the week after Eas-
ter.
X-Ray Unit Due
In Milam County
For Entire Month
The TB X-ray Unit will be in
Milam County on the following
dates:
Thomdale ... April » - »
Rockdale ..... April »

Buckholts ........ May 12
Cameron ...... May 5-9
The location of the X-ray Unit
and the hours of operauoo will be
announced at a later date.
The primary purpose of the
chest X-ray program is to help
the community find unknown cases
of tuberculosis in the effort to era-
dicate this infectious disease, heal-
th officials said.
Heretofore all applying have
been given free chest X-rays, but
some restrictions will apply this
year. A medical reference card
should be presented at the time of
the X-ray, by all persons under
50. These cards can be obtained
from any member of the Milam
County Medical Society or from
the Milam County Health Depart-
ment.
Persons in the SO above age
group do not need a card as every-
one in this group should be X-
rayed annually. This group is the
major source of tuberculosis cases 1

persons 50 years of age and above
The average age of admissions to
State TB Hospitals is in this group
and the trend is upward. Sixty-
five percent of the deaths from
tuberculosis in Texas last year
were in this group, authorities said.
The 20 - 49 age group will be
X-rayed on the basis of good medi-
cal reasons: (Tuberculin test re-
actors) (Contacts of known TB
cases) 'People living in high TB
prevalence areas) (The medically
indigent) (Those sent in by family
physicians'.
In the 15 - 19 age group only
those who have a record of having
a positive reaction to a tuberculin
test will be given a chest X-ray.
The Milam County Health Depart-
ment will tuberculin test all Milam
County high school students whose
parents sign the tuberculin request
slip. Medical reference cards for
free chest X-rays will be given to
all positive reactors and their fam-
ilies.
