Sets 2nd Iris Show

Chairman for the Second Iris
Show for Cameron, sponsored by
the Civic Garden Club, has an-
nounced that plans have been
completed and that the show will
be held April 18 in the Recreation
Hoorn el the First Christian
Church. I
The show will be open to visitors
from J to 6 p.m.
Mrs. Leo Fuchs, schedule chair-
man for the show, presented co-
pies with explanations to mem-
bers and copies will be mailed to
persons exhibiting last year. Ot-
hers desiring a schedule should
call Mrs. Schiller or Mrs. Fuchs.
All specimen Iris must have
been grown by the exhibitor and
may be entered according to color.
An exhibit*''- may make only one
entry of one variety in a class
but may enter more varieties and
as many classes as desired. An
exhibitor may also enter a collec-
tion of three different varieties of
one color,” explained Mrs. Fuchs.
Tricolor Ribbons and a named
rhizome will be awarded to each
of the following: the exhibitor win-
ning the greatest number of first
prize points, the best specimen in
the show and the best collection.
Containers in which to exhibit
must be furnished by the exhibitor.
The show is open to exhibition
to any one interested and partici-
pation is invited and encouraged.
Mrs. Schiller stated that “Many
fine iris are grown in Cameron
sid it is hoped and expected that
the show will be greater and of
finer quality than was the excell-
ent show last year.”
An added feature for the show
this year will be flower arrange-
ments, featuring iris, made by
appointment. An American Iris
Judge will be included in the panel
of Judges.

pointed by Mrs. Schiller are:

Entry, Mrs. J. D. Moore; Secre-
tary, Mrs. Cato Sheerer; Staging
and Placement, Mrs. G. A. Mc-

Delphian Gab Has
Program, Sets Plans
For May Flower Show
Mrs. J. H. Asher was hostess
for the Delphian Club at her home
Tuesday afternoon.
A program on Antiques was pre-
sented by Mrs. Niley Smith. Using
a display of antiques to illustrate
her talk, Mrs. Smith gave some
background on the word Antique
and how its meaning had changed
through the years. She also des-
cribed shrines that have deep
meaning to Americans including
The Alamo, St. Augustine Florida
and North Church in Boston.
Miss Mildred Thornton, general
chairman for the Delphian Club
Flower Show announced that the
show will be held May 6 at the
First Methodist Church.
Following the program Mrs. Ash-
er served refreshments of orange
roll, mints, nuts and coffee.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gibson and
son, John Everett of Houston visit-
ed her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Bullock over the weekend.

Henderson of Cameron, Texas,
announce the 4ngageriient of their
daughter, Miss Jane Birdwell
Henderson, to Mr. Jack Crowley
Killgore. Mr. Killgore is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. John Ralph
Killgore of Rosebud Texas.
Miss Henderson, a senior stu-
dent at the University of Texas,
has served as President of Alpha
Lamba Delta, freshman honorary
scholastic society, and of her soc-
ial sorority, Delta Gamma. She is
an Orange Jacket, a (Joodfellow,
and a member of Mortar Board.
She is now serving as President
of the University Religious Coun-
cil.
Mr. Killgore is a graduate of
Baylor University, where he was
a member of the honorary Span-
ish fraternity, the professional
journalistic fraternity, and the
Baylor Golden Wave Band. He Is
now a graduate student of linguis-
tics at the University of Texas.
A late summer wedding is
planned.
Schiller Presents
Informative Talk
For Three Arts
Edward Schiller was guest spea-
ker at the Three Arts Club meet-
ing Thursday in the home of Mrs.
A. H. Baskin.
Introduced by Mrs. Louis Mc-
Kee, Mr. Schiller presented an in-
formative discussion on drugs, il-
lustrating his talk with samples
of crude forms of the most com-
monly used drugs. He also pointed
out some of the important ad-
vancements made in the field of
drugs during the past few years.
Following the program Mrs.
Baskin served refreshments of
cherry tarts and coffee to mem-
bers and one guest, Mrs. Edward
Schiller. The hostess was assisted
by Mrs. McKee.
Miss Smith Reviews
Canadian Politics At
Pleasure-Profit Chib
Miss Ada Margaret Smith pre-
sented an interesting review of
.Csnadiar^ prime ministers when
the Peasure ami Profit Club met
March 27 at the home of Mrs.
S. D. Ripley.
Miss Smith also brought club
members up to date on today’s
political scene jn Canada.
Following the meeting refresh-
ments were served ot the 15 mem-
bers present and one guest, Mrs.
Jim Lester.

Name Attendants
Attendants for the wedding of
Miss Loretta Marie Becker to
Richard Kee Wardlaw were an-
nounced this week.
Mrs. Ray Becker, sister-in-law
I of the bride, will be matron of
honor and Joe Wardlaw, brother
of the groom, will serve as best
man. Flower girls will be Paula
Folschinsky, cousin of the bride
and Cindy Wardlaw, niece of the
groom.
The wedding will be April 12 at
4 p.m. in the United 'Christian
Church, Ben Arnold.
Miss Greenlees
To Wed In June
The engagement of Miss Char-
lotte Ann Greenlees to Orville S.
Monroe has been announced by
her parents, Mr and Mrs B. H.
Greenlees of Austin.
Former Cameron residents, Mias
Greenlees attended school here
and is a graduate of Southwestern
Bible Institute in Waxahachie. She
is employed by the Texas State
Department of Health.
Mr. Monroe is the son of Mr.
and Sirs. S. T. Monroe, Austin.
He is a junior at the University
of Texas and a graduate of Travis
High School in Austin.
The wedding is planned for June
6 in the East Austin Assembly of
God Church.

Mrs. Tony Vogelsang was hos-
tess for the 42 Leisure Club Thurs-
day afternoon at the Magnolia
House.
Mrs. Charles Payne won high
score and Mrs August Kunz, se-
cond high. The 84 prize went to
Mrs. Leo Laake.
Refreshments of pie a-la-mode
and coffee were served to the
group. <
Mrs. Leo Laake will host the
club for the next meeting April 1C.
Civic Garden Chib
Will Meet Thursday
Next regular meeting of the
Civic Garden Club will be April
10th at 9:30 a.m. in the Recreation
Room of the First Christian
Church.
Mrs. R. G. Grabein and Mrs.
Alvin Dusek, both Nationally Ac-
credited Flower Show Judges, will
present the program, "Outline of
Period Flower Arrangements.”
Arrangements for practice judg-
ing will b edesigned by Mrs. Tho-
mas Raymond, Mrs. John Ryan
and Mrs. W.. M. Fannin.
Council Names
District Delegates
Presidents from five home dem-
onstration dubs, four council dele-
gates, five council officers and two
committee chairman were present
for the Milam County Home Dem-
onstration Council meeting March
17.
The group met at the First Bap-
tist Church annex in Cameron.
Mrs. Alice Hughes, Mrs. Clyde
Holliman, Mrs. Graham Young,
Sr., Mrs. George Young, Jr., and j
Mrs. Hugh Wimberly were named
to attend the District 8 meeting
at Cisco this week.
The council made plans for their
tea to be held at Minerva May 1.
All dub members will be asked
to come and to bring a guest.
Miss Barbara Jo Johnson, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Jistd,
and Miss Ethel Mae Jistel, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. erbert Jistel,
will return to Cameron Saturday
idllowing three months of psychia-
tric training in New Orleans. They
will be in Cameron for a two-
week vacation before returning to
Providence -School -of- Marring,
co, where both are senior students.

study of The Gospd According to
St. Mark.
Mrs. John B. Henderson, study

Mrs Roy Baskin furnished the
worship center.
The third lesson in the series
will be presented Monday at 3 p.m.
Mrs. Sam Brewer will be in charge
of the worship.
Army Option Program
Has April 21 Cut-Off
The United States Army will
accept qualified young men for
assignment to the 3rd Armored
Division in Europe, Sfc. Leo A.
Dermody announced today.
Cut-off date for this special en-
listment option under the Army’s
Choice, Not Chance Program is
April 21. Enlistment applications
must be submitted prior to this
time.
Interested young men are urged
to visit or call Sfc. Dermody at
the Cameron Draft Board Office
Tuesday morning for further in-
formation.

Garden Worksop
Mrs. Leo Fuchs and Mrs. R. G
Grabein conducted a Workshop for
the Rosebud Garden Club Wed-
nesday.
Mrs. Fuchs lead the morning
session on horticulture emphasiz-
ing the importance of this field in
garden club work. She pointed out
that in order ot show you must
first know how to grow
In the afternoon session Mrs
Grabein conducted an instructive ,
session on flower arranging. She
gave illustrations and point scored
arrangements brought by the mem-
bers.
Mrs. Fuchs and Mrs. Grabein 1
are Nationally Accredited Flower
Show Judges and are both active
in the Civic Garden Club.
Women Golfers Set
Tournament Plans At
Country Chib Meet
The Womens Golf Association
held their regular monthly busi-
ness meeting at the Cameron
Country Club Tuesday.
Mrs. Owen Smith, president, an-
nounced that the Invitational Golf
Tournament had been re-scheduled
for May 6 due to a conflicting
schedule for invited golfers. Invi-
tations were mailed Tuesday.
Plans were made to start a
ringer tournament beginning April
8 to continue through June.
The tournament prize committee
reported that prizes had been se-
lected for the four flights and for
extra competition including pitch-
ing, putting, and driving. Mrs. Ray
Lester is General Chairman of the
Invitational Tournament.
In Tuesday’s play prizes of golf
bals were presented to Mrs. Burke,
Mrs. Hart, Mrs. Jackett and Mrs.
Ford.
