A HOUND TOWN.
EL PASO DAILY /TIMES, SUNDAY, MARCH 5, lb99.
1. Ik, Charge Entared Aeaioat Andy Bull-
ion. a .Negro.
About 5 o’clock yesterday morning a
•olored woman, clad only in a night
dress, rushed frantically into the Sen-
ate saloon and implored the bartender
to protect her from a man who was
trying to kill her. The bartender took
her into the room in the rear and sent
for the police. The poor woman was
so terrified thas she was unable to re-
main alone and came out to the front of
the saloon again. She bad evidently
received pretty rough treatment and
her head was all plastered and bandag-
ed up showing clearly the marks of a
terrible beating she had received from
some one. As a result Andy Hudson, a
oolored porter is now a prisoner at the
county iail charged with assault with
intent to murder.
On Friday night Andy on being re-
lieved from duty at the saloon where he
was employed proceeded to take in the
town and about :30 he returned to bis
boarding house in a tightiug humor.
He walked on through the room oc-
cupied bv himself and Charles Higgius,
a oolored barber employed at the Gem,
into the next which was occupied by
Clara Henderson.
A minute or two later there was a
sound of blows and screams of “mur-
der,” and the woman rushed from the
room covered with blood, and Andy in
pursuit with a murderous lookiug re-
volver in his hand. Springing from
the bed, Higgins placed himself be-
tween the enraged man and his victim
and seized the pistol, catching the ham-
mer on his hand as it descended, just in
time to prevent, a murder being done.
Andy was qnickly sub'lned and taken
to jail by the police, who were now
summoned. At the station a simple
charge of disturbing the peace was en-
tered against him and he was allowed
to go upon giving bond. A doctor was
■ummoned and attended to the wo-
man's injuries, which were quite se-
rious.
No sooner was Atidv at liberty than
he, with bis murderous design still uu-
appeased, returned to the house, and on
being refused admittance to the wo-
man’s room, proceeded to break in the
door, while she, in her fright, rushed
out the back way and ran no town
The man, enraged at the escape of his
victim, proceeded to smash the furni-
ture, aud when ha had succeeded in
wrecking everything in sight he started
to run up town, bnt ran right into the
arms of Officer Christley. This time
he was not allowed to give bail and is
being held to await the outcome of the
woman’s injuries, which were last night
reported as dangarons and some fear
was expressed that she might not re-
cover. Hudson is expected to have a
preliminary hearing Monday.

Modest Women
Modesty in
women is no
less a charm
than beauty and
wit Is it any
wonder that wo-
men afflicted
with physical
disorders pecu-
liar to their sex
shrink from per-

physicians? The
weaknesses and irregularities of women
may be recognized by certain unfailing
symptoms. Backache, headache, bearing-
down pains, irritability and extreme nerv-
ousness indicate derangement of the
delicate female organism. Bradfield’s Fe-
