#11 If
A most pitiful case of parental de-
pravity was brought to the attention
of Justice E. H McCiintock yester-
day. A Mexican man and his wife
| appeared before Justice McCiintock
i Wednesday to complain that another
I Mexican woman had persuaded their
! 13-year-old (iaughtpi to leave home
ajf- live with her for immoral pur
poses
The judge had the girl turned over
to her parents and yesterday she ap-
peared In Justice, M' t iiutock's court,
her head wrapped in a shawl, and
told a most pitiful st of having ran
away from home th> night before to
avoid being forced into a life of
shame by her rootle t and stepfather.
The girl, a very bright and pretty
child, who says sli< going on lb
years of age, stated that she tan away
from home to live with the other Mex-
ican woman, some da's ago, because
her mother atid stepfathl-r wanted her
to do wrong. She said that when she
returned to her mother Wednesday
in accordance with the orders of the
court, her mother and stepfather told
her She must occupy a crib on Broad-
way In the redlight reservation.
The stepfather had already secured
a room for her. But the girl refused
to occupy it and to keep her from
running away again her stepfather
had held her while her mother took
shears and cut off her long, luxuriant
growth of hair close to the scalp.
But despite the shame of her shaved
head the girl, fearing worse, slipped
away from home at midnight and
again sought refuge in the home of
that other kind-hearted .Mexican wont
an. who advised the girl to go to
Judge McCiintock and tell him every-
thing.
“I do not think the lawmakers of
Texas,-' said Judge McCiintock, •‘an-
ticipated the prostitution of a child
by its own mother. Still Deputy Corn
stable Hlnkiey and myself Intend to
see what the grand jury can do about
it. Mr. Hinckley has offered the girl
a home In his own family until he
can find a place for her. I think my
wife can give her a home. But my
wife is out of town and will not re
turn for several days.”
The girl savs that her mother stleks
a needle in her ami and Is then kind
and good until she goes to sleep and
wakes up again. Officer Hinckley
says the girl's mother Is an opium
flaml.

"I am not stalling." continued Mr.
