HULL
When you see these old
middle-age boys wearing
their Sunday clothes on
Monday, don’t get excited.
They haven’t gone high-hat.
They are still the same big-
hearted fellows you have
known all along. They are
merely trying to wear out
their best “civvies” before
Uocle Sam gets them into a
ur If orm.
THAT VAMPIRE'S HERE AGAIN—this time as “The
Son of Draculu,” with Evelyn Ankers, Lon Chaney and Robert

best boots every day now, and
this week it was reported that
Marlin Gilliland actually had a
crease in his pants. There are a
bunch more of them, too. Jim-

out there about gasoline. Each
issue of the Ledger had pictures

I seems very, very critical on the

is chiefly due to lack of trans-

Here are a couple of pretty
fair jokes:
A Tennessee hillbilly had
been calling on his girl for al-
most a year, when pappy finally
cornered him one night and
asked:
“You been seeing Nelly for
night onto a year. What are your
intentions, honorable or dis-
honorable?"
The hillbilly’s eyes sparkled:
“You mean I got a choice?”
Sailor: “Ten minutes after we
hit port I’ll be walking down the
street with a beautiful girl on
each arm.”
Marine: “Yeah? There never
was a tattoo artist who could
work that fast."
Bob Singer clipped the fol-
lowing article from a phar-
macy magazine. The more
you read it, the more truth
you will find In It. However,

Her Biggest Job is War
There has never been a time when the work of the tele*
phone operator has been so important as right now.
For there are more Long Distance calls than ever before;
More are in a hurry. Most of them are the urgent, vital calls
of war.
Calm in emergencies, capable and courteous, the tele*
phone operators are earning a nation’s thanks for a job
well done.

monkey—despite what a lot
of people think.
The Monkey's Viewpoint
The monkeys sat in a coconut
tree,
Discussing things as they're
.said to be.
Said one to the other, “Now
listen, you two,
There’s a certain rumor that
can’t be true,
That man descended from our
noble race.
The very idea! It’s a dire
disgrace;
No monkey ever reserted his
wife,
Starved her baby, and ruined
her life.
And you’ve never known a
mother Monk
To leave the babies with
others to bunk,
Or pass them on from one to
another
’Till they scarcely know who is
their mother.
And another thing! You’ll
never see
A Monk build a fence ’round
a coconut tree,
And let the coconuts go to
waste’
Forbidding all other Monks a
taste.
Why, if I put a fence around
this tree
Starvation would force you to
steal from me.
Here's another thing a Monk
won’t do:
Go out at night and get on a
stew;
Of use a gun, a club or knife
To take some other Monkey’s
life.
Yes, man descended, the
ornery cuss,
But, brother, he didn’t
descend from us.”
