Last week, as winner of the con-
test, she had been crowned and
kissed by General Jonathan Wain-
wright and was back at her of-
ficial address, 2821 F o n d r e n.
Without a movie contract yet,
nor even a yen for one, she had
again settled into the routine of
a normal 21-year-old business girl,
concerning herself with books, her
dog, her dates, keeping her apart-
ment and going to work.
Her ambition is to have a radio
career. It was necessary to sing
one number in the Jaycee-spon-
sored Port Arthur contest. As her
education at Knox College in Illi-
nois did not include vocal training,
D. Anne spent $42.50 on lessons
two days before the show.
In early September, she plans
to be in Atlantic City to vie with
Misses 47 Other States for the
title, Miss America, 1946.y
