Mr. & Mrs. Fish
return to coast
H.0. Olsen Elementary School stu-
dents will host Mr. and Mrs. Fish
FHday, April 23, in preparation for
Ocean Week.
Mr. and Mrs. Fish have visited the
students many times to bring lo life
the marine life and habitat that sur-
rounds the students who live on Mus-
tang Island. They are, in real life, Jeff
and Deb Sandler of South Portland,
MN. For the assembly they dress as
Mr. and Mrs. Fish and tour the world
teaching other students about marine
life.
This presentation will be on endan-
gered sea turtles. Mr. and Mrs. Fish
will spend the rest of the weekend at
the University of Texas Marine Sci-
ence Institute here where they will be
involved in a seminar for SO elemen-
tary school teachers from across
Texas. Port Aransas ISD pre-kinder-
garten teacher Katie Rea will partici-
pate in that seminar.
In lieu of Texas Public Schools
Week, PAISD students celebrate
Ocean Week, which isan intense week
of study of marine life and marine
habitats. The study is correlated
among all the disciplines from math
to social studies, language, art, music
and, of course, science.
The assembly will be at 1 p.m.
tomorrow (Friday, April 23) in the
elementary school gym.
Less litter
Hayden Abel makes his annual check of litter in Port Aransas using
his photometric index, which is a means of measuring special
distribution of litter in random areas. Abel is concluding a five year
study, started in 1988. Results of Abel's use of the photometric
index indicates a 25 percent reduction in littering in Port Aransas
as compared to the original check. But the bad news is that results
indicate there was more littering this April than in April 1992. 'We
have noticed that roadside littering is higher this year,' he said.

Park board apppointments
